Miss Austen official trailer
Miss Austen is a brand new period drama from the BBC and PBS Masterpiece coming to screens today (Sunday, February 2).
The show takes its cue from Gill Hornbyâs 2020 book Miss Austen, following Cassandra Austen (played by Keeley Hawes) who is seeking out her famous sister Jane Austenâs (Patsy Ferran) personal letters before they fall into the wrong hands.
Over four episodes, Miss Austen flits seamlessly between the past and the present as Cassandra muses over her life and loves while re-reading her sisterâs correspondence.
The show has an impressive cast including Game of Thronesâ Rose Leslie, Phyllis Logan of Downton Abbey fame, Spaced star Jessica Hynes, and The Midwich Cuckoosâ Synnøve Karlsen as a young Cassandra.

Miss Austen also features up-and-coming star Mirren Mack, who plays maid Dinah - hereâs where youâve seen the actress before.
Hailing from Stirling, Scotland, 27-year-old Mack attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
She is perhaps best known for her roles in the BBC drama The Nest and Netflixâs feel good coming-of-age series Sex Education as asexual schoolgirl Florence, who shared a poignant scene with Gillian Andersonâs sex therapist Jean Milburn.

Reflecting on starring opposite The Crown and The X-Files star, Mack told The Guardian in 2020: âMy heart was going so fast during the scenes with her â I did have to keep telling myself âremember to actâ.â
She described the whole process of acting alongside the veteran actress simply âjaw-droppingâ.
In The Nest, Mack portrayed a volatile pregnant teen who comes into the crosshairs of a couple hoping to adopt a baby.
She was nominated for the Scottish BAFTA for her performance in The Nest and previously won accolades for her turn in Mudlarks.
