Meet Severance star Merritt Wever - from Nurse Jackie to The Walking Dead
Here's the lowdown on the star behind Gretchen
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Severance season 2
The latest episode of Apple TV+ series Severance introduced a fresh face to the mix—Gretchen George, portrayed by Merritt Wever. She is the wife of Dylan George (Zach Cherry), a severed employee at Lumon Industries.
In the second episode, Dylan was promised a meeting with his Outie's family if he behaved well, causing a rift between him and his colleagues. Consequently, Dylan chose to comply, keeping secrets and deviating from his fellow Innies' mission to locate Ms Casey/Gemma (Dichen Lachman).
Thanks to his good behaviour, Dylan was granted an 18-minute rendezvous with Gretchen, his Outie's wife. During their meeting, she revealed details about his Outie self and shared photos of their children.
According to IMDb, Wever's character will feature in eight out of the 10 episodes in the second season of Severance, reports the Mirror US.
Fans are intrigued about where they might have seen the actress before. Here's the scoop.
American actress Wever is perhaps most recognised for her role as Zoey in the TV series Nurse Jackie, which earned her an Emmy Award in 2013. The 44 year old began her career in the 1990s, appearing in independent films and low-budget productions, as well as performing in off-Broadway theatre shows.
Wever's filmography includes roles in movies such as Into the Wild, Neal Cassady, and Michael Clayton. As her career progressed, she guest-starred in various TV shows including The Good Wife, Conviction, Law and Order: Criminal Intent, New Girl, and The Wire.
She made a significant impact in AMC's The Walking Dead, with her character's exit in the sixth season sparking fan uproar. Wever also shone in the Netflix series Godless, earning critical praise and another Emmy Award.
In 2019, she was recognised with a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in Unbelievable.
More recently, she has graced screens in Roar, Tiny Beautiful Things, Memory, and Run. With a slew of projects on the horizon, Wever's star continues to rise.
According to IMDb, she is set to appear in BBC's Lockerbie, a TV series centred around the tragic Pan Am Flight 103 crash in 1988.
She will share the screen with SAS Rogue Heroes and Sex Education star Connor Swindells, Eddie Marsan, Peter Mullan, Outlander's Lauren Lyle, Phyllis Logan, and Suits actor Patrick J. Adams.
This marks the second TV show about the disaster following Colin Firth's Sky series Lockerbie: A Search for Truth, which debuted earlier this month.
Wever's upcoming roles also include a part in The Gilded Age and a Christy Martin Biopic.
