Apple TV+ has ordered a K-pop competition series with âGangnam Styleâ singer Psy and Megan Thee Stallion set to star, Variety has learned.
The series is titled âKPopped.â Apple has commissioned eight episodes. Per the official description, âIn each episode, western icons reimagine one of their biggest hits, collaborating with top-tier K-pop idols to deliver spectacular battle performances, with a live Seoul-based audience picking the winner of the best new K-popped song.â
Megan Thee Stallion will executive produce in addition to performing her hit song âSavageâ on the show. Lionel Richie is also an executive producer on the series along with Moira Ross, Miky Lee, Greg Foster, alongside Harry H.K. Shin and Jake Hong, with producer Kiwoong Kim for CJ ENM Co., Ltd. Chris Culvenor, Paul Franklin, Wes Dening and David Tibballs executive produce for Eureka Productions, a Fremantle company, alongside Bruce Eskowitz.
This will mark one of Appleâs few entries into the unscripted competition series space. The streaming arm of the tech giant previously aired the series âMy Kind of Countryâ from co-creators Reese Witherspoon and Kacey Musgraves, which focused on country music. That series aired its one and only season in 2023. Apple also previously aired the docuseries âK-Pop Idolsâ in 2024.
