Meghan Markle admits that it took some time for her to step back into her spotlight after marriage and children.

Meghan Markle found herself at a crossroads after marrying into the royal family and welcoming two children in quick succession with Prince Harry. After years as a working actor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Meghan turned over her life to the House of Windsor in 2017. It took some time to untangle herself from her royal role, reclaim her identity, and “find” herself again in the process.

In a People Magazine interview, Meghan Markle discussed how her life changed once she became Prince Harry’s wife and mother to their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. She revealed that after putting her career on the back burner when her children were infants, she’s ready to step into her spotlight again.

“When your children get to a certain age — when you’re not just playing in the sandbox with them but almost playing in your own sandbox again — it’s super joyful,” Meghan explains. “As a woman, a mom, and a wife, to be able to find yourself again — in a way that was always present but that you maybe couldn’t put as much attention on as you now can when your kids are a little bit older — is a wonderful feeling.”

This shift results in the new Netflix series With Love, Meghan, and a line of products under the As Ever banner, via a partnership with the streaming service. Both highlight Meghan’s skillset as a lifestyle entrepreneur, honed under her original website The Tig.

To People, Meghan shared the reasons that led her to shut down her popular website, The Tig, in 2017. The Tig was Meghan Markle’s personal lifestyle blog, launched in 2014 and named after her favorite wine, Tignanello.

The site featured content on travel, fashion, beauty, wellness, and food, along with personal reflections from Meghan herself. It also highlighted inspiring women and shared her experiences as an actress, including her time on Suits.

However, she told People Magazine that she had a good reason for closing the blog down. “Well, I loved The Tig, but I certainly love my husband more,” Meghan admitted. “So that was a choice I made at the time, and I wouldn’t change that for a second.”

She continued, “My husband met me when I had The Tig, and I see this spark in his eye when he sees me doing the thing that I was doing when he first met me.”

The other reason, which Meghan did not indicate, was that keeping The Tig would have conflicted with royal family rules. All social media and outside projects of the royal family are controlled by the Royal Household’s “Digital Engagement” team, a part of the Royal Communications department. This means the content posted on their social media channels and other projects, are overseen by palace staff. 

Along with Netflix’s With Love, Meghan, which debuted on March 4, Meghan Markle has several other projects in the pipeline. This spring, a line of lifestyle items, including her jam, will be available at asever.com.

Meghan is also debuting a podcast on Lemonada Media. The company will reportedly carry the original 12 installments of Meghan Markle’s first podcast, the Spotify-produced Archetypes. She originally inked a deal with Lemonada Media for an original podcast in February 2024.

In 2023, Meghan and Prince Harry parted ways with Spotify. However, the new podcast may contain information featured on her new Netflix series or As Ever brand.
