It’s no secret that 50 people received a jar of Meghan Markle’s jam, but now we know who got jar number one.
That honor belongs to none other than Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, revealed in episode two of her new lifestyle show on Netflix, With Love, Meghan. The episode, called “Welcome to the Party,” opens with Meghan in the garden, speaking about the vines that inspired her jam and preserve-making. She said she wants her kids, 5-year-old Prince Archie and 3-year-old Princess Lilibet, to connect jam-making “to coming home from school and connect it to sweetness wafting through the house,” she said.
Mindy Kaling, a friend of Meghan’s who previously appeared on Meghan’s Archetypes podcast in 2022, was one of the 50 who received the coveted jam, along with celebrities like Kris Jenner, Chrissy Teigen and Tracee Ellis Ross. The jam was American Riviera Orchard’s first product offering, and the jars of jam featuring the brand’s logo began appearing on Instagram on April 15 of last year. On Feb. 17, Meghan revealed that she was renaming her brand from American Riviera Orchard to As ever.

Kaling received No. 19 of 50, as seen on the jam’s numbered labels. Kaling’s verdict on the spread was short and sweet: “Obsessed,” she wrote alongside a photo of the jam placed in a bowl of fresh lemons on her Instagram Story.
In the second episode of With Love, Meghan, Kaling talked to Meghan about her jam — and how she was fascinated to find out what number she was compared to everyone else who received a jar.
“People took it very personally, the hierarchy,” Meghan said.
Meghan then shared that Doria was No. 1, adding, “Anyone who got them, I hope they felt like I wanted to share this with you.”

Meghan's mom has been by her side for everything from the royal wedding in 2018 to the Duchess of Sussex's first royal speech.
"Meghan draws a lot of strength from her mother. Doria is classy, chic and confident, but not unapproachable," Meghan's longtime friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin told PEOPLE in 2018. "I definitely feel Meghan gets a lot of that from her mother."
Ragland spoke about her daughter's relationship with Harry for the first time in the 2022 Netflix series Harry & Meghan, admitting "the last five years have been challenging." However, she said she couldn't be happier that Meghan found "the one."

While the new Netflix show incorporates some of Meghan's products, she tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that it's not your standard cooking show.
"It feels as though we’re just spending time together, which is what it ended up being," the Duchess of Sussex says. "I’d make a recipe and say, ‘Everyone try this,’ and there are certain dishes where you just watch everyone flock in. I’d say, ‘We’ve run out of spoons!’ It ended up feeling so communal, and that’s the spirit of the show."
