Meghan Markle's supporters have slammed the resurgence of a vile hashtag targeting the Duchess of Sussex, as online trolls launch fresh attacks.
The hashtag "MeghanMarkleAmericanPsycho" has been circulating on social media platform X, drawing particularly harsh criticism towards Meghan. This comes amidst discussions about Meghan's rebranding of her lifestyle brand from American Riviera Orchard to As Ever, and controversy over her choice to wear a Northwestern University jumper, echoing the late Princess Diana's style.
Defending the duchess, fans have taken to social media to voice their support. One user stated on X: "Calling Meghan Markle a psycho when you're the internet bully is ridiculous, every day you dedicate all your time attacking a person who doesn't even read your tweets, you're the psycho here."
Another added: "I think the Meghan Markle trolling is the most insane amount of reverse bullying I have ever seen. I genuinely dont(sic) think it is healthy or nice. Leave her alone ... move on with life to people who are actual villains." A third chimed in: "Meghan Markle hate is sooo forced," reports the Express, while another concurred: "Yes. People seem to hate her for no reason."

One supporter expressed confusion over the differing public reactions, writing: "What I dont(sic) get why it is she is hated for doing the same things Kate is doing and K is glorified for it ... this level of hate is just next level ..." Another chimed in with their perspective: "I don't know a lot about meghan markle but you'll always see me defending her cause seeing someone who doesn't deserve it get endlessly bullied/harassed makes me mad lol."
The Duchess of Sussex has remained silent on the vitriol directed at her, though she has previously addressed the issue of online bullying and the perils of social media. Last year, Meghan participated in a panel at the South by Southwest (SXSW) Festival in Texas, where she shared her personal experiences with bullying and stressed the importance of implementing online safety measures.
During the discussion, she revealed the extent of harassment she faced on various digital platforms, particularly noting that the "worst of the bullying" occurred during her pregnancies with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Meghan disclosed: "It's really interesting because I can reflect on it, I keep my distance from [social media] right now, for my own wellbeing."
She added, "The bulk of the bullying and abuse that I was experiencing on social media and online was when I was pregnant with Archie and with Lili, and [when] they were born." Reflecting on the cruelty she encountered, Meghan remarked, "And you just think about that and you [struggle] to wrap your head around why people would be so hateful. It's not catty, it's cruel."
In the same year, the Duchess faced a fresh barrage of negative comments after her visit to Jamaica with Prince Harry in January. Journalist Liz Jones rallied to her defence in her Daily Mail column, highlighting the unprecedented level of online abuse.
Ms Jones penned: "If Meghan is reading even a fraction of the online abuse aimed at her, I wonder how she is able to function at all." She added: "You might say, well, don't read it, but these barbs have a way of finding their target, seeping under a door."
