Prince Harry and Meghan Markle moved to California back in 2020, and itâs also the state where Meghan grew up. She was born and raised in the Los Angeles area, so when the area was devastated by wildfires earlier this year, Harry and Meghan took a tour of the damage to see how they could help. It was met with some backlash, but Meghan meant it when she said she wanted to help others.
Meghan recently posted a video to Instagram where she called out her own good deed, and while some see it as a sweet way of helping a girl in need, not everyone is pleased with the way Meghan presented the situation.

When Meghan and Harry went down to Altadena to survey the wildfire damage, they met a family who had lost everything â including a teenage girl who had lost her favorite concert t-shirt from a Billie Eilish show. Meghan hopped on Instagram to tell the story of how she tracked down Billie Eilish, who then sent over plenty of merch for Meghan to deliver to the young girl.
While the deed itself is an admirable one, it seems Meghan canât do anything without it causing some kind of problem. And people were quick to judge Meghanâs Instagram post as more self-serving than helpful.
âWhy do we need to see this? So she used that girls [sic] story for content?â one X user wrote beneath a post sharing Meghanâs good deed. Someone likened it to âparents using their children for clout.â
Express reports that Alexander Larman, author and editor of The Spectator, wrote, âThe disaster has attracted a small but vocal number of people who ostensibly have offered their time and resources to provide much-needed assistance â but in reality seem more interested in creating #content to share on their social media. Meghan Markle, predictably enough, belongs to that category.â
It seems there are just as many people rooting for Meghanâs good deed as those trying to squash it. Throughout social media, people were responding to the video with positivity.
âActually made me cry. Such a beautiful person inside and out,â an X user wrote below the video.
âI love this woman. She is so kind and caring,â another user wrote under the same post.
âHer and Harryâs humanity is what makes the royals afraid of them,â someone else commented.
It doesnât appear that Billie Eilish posted anything about the incident, which has only added fuel to the fire for the haters who say kindness should be done behind the scenes. Regardless of whether Meghan is self-serving or not, she certainly made one young girl who just lost everything extremely happy.
