Meghan Markle's surprising Scottish family tie to historical King
The Duchess of Sussex's family tree has been linked back to the ancient Scottish King, Robert the Bruce by a royal biographer.
Meghan Markle has a surprising family tie to one ancient Scottish King as a royal biographer has revealed the duchess is descended from Robert the Bruce.
The Suits actress became a part of the Royal Family when she married Prince Harry in 2018 but it seems she had already had royal blood in her veins for many years before she tied the knot with the duke.
Royal biographer Andrew Morton discovered the unexpected relation between the 43-year-old and the historical Scot after he traced a link back through 25 generations, according to The Sun.
He explained: "It is possible to trace a direct line through 25 generations to Robert I of Scotland of Scotland, perhaps the most colourful of all Scottish kings.

"It is the lineage of Meghan's gran that can be traced directly to the Scottish royals and more. Through her ancestor Roger Shaw, Meghan's trickle of blue blood was transported to America.
âThe son of a wine merchant in the City of London, Shaw sailed from Plymouth to Massachusetts around 1637. Through Shawâs family, who originated from Yorkshire, we find the link to royalty.
"It was the marriage in 1490 of James Shaw to Christina Bruce, the daughter of Sir David Bruce, 6th Baron of Clackmannan, a direct descendant of Robert the Bruce, that sealed the royal connection."

Meghan previously visited Scotland in 2018 with Prince Harry on the couple's first official joint appearance to the country.
The trip was a part of their public engagements in the run up to their royal wedding on May 1, 2018 where they visited Edinburgh Castle and attended the firing of the castle's famous One o'clock Gun.
The couple now reside in Montecito, California with their two kids Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet after they stepped down from the Royal Family in 2020.
