Meghan Markle urged to take a leaf out of Taylor Swift's 'playbook'
Meghan Markle was told that she should adopt Taylor's Swift's approach to handing bad press following the latest backlash.
Meghan Markle was urged to follow Taylor Swift's approach to dealing with "public scrutiny" following the latest critisism she's received.
The Duchess of Sussex has been making headlines recently for various reasons, inluding her visit to Los Angeles with Prince Harry amid the California wildfires, the latest allegations about her behaviour towards staff and the contents of her new Netflix show - due to be released on May 4.
Now a PR expert said Meghan should take a look at US singer Taylor Swift who's given a "masterclass in handling a polarising image".
Tom South, director of Organic & Web at Epos Now, claimed Meghan's new show will be a "pivotal moment" for her to fix her image after some of her attempts made her seem "desperate" - even if she "intends well".
He added that the duchess should "borrow a page from Taylor Swift’s playbook" on managing controversies and public scrutiny in order to save her reputation.
The expert explained: "Taylor Swift is the gold standard for turning public backlash into fuel for reinvention. If you look at Meghan, she appears defensive, whether it’s trying to control her narrative or hitting back at the media. That’s bad PR."
Mr South went on to detail how Ms Swift handled and "embraced vulnerability and transparency" when she was dubbed "the sweet country girl turned serial dater" and showcased how she dealt with the backlash, which in turn "worked wonders" in softening her image.
He added: "Similarly, Meghan should lean into her authenticity and be transparent about her struggles. Right now, she’s combative and hasn’t been able to create a brand beyond controversy.
"Taylor Swift too, has had a complex relationship with the press but she’s used it constructively to offer exclusive interviews, expressing her thoughts on controversies and leaving no room for misinterpretation.
"Contrarily, Meghan has been highly defensive, creating a never-ending cycle of counter-accusations. Instead, she should create some space for dialogue such as insightful interviews on her motivations, struggles, and controversies.
"This approach is more human and will help her take control of her narrative without being critical!"
A damning new report by Vanity Fair brought fresh allegations regarding the duchess's attitude towards staff into the spotlight last week.
It claimed that a former Spotify colleague had to take a "leave of absence after working on three episodes".
The outlet alleged that "several others" said that they had to take "breaks from work to escape scrutiny", leave their job altogether or undergo "long-term therapy" after working with Meghan.
However, producer Jane Marie, who collaborated with the couple while they developed audio projects at Archewell, held a different opinion about Meghan.
The Sussex couple has declined to comment on the latest claims, but sources close to them told the Times they find the latest allegations "distressing".
It follows previous allegations made against the duchess last year and back in 2018, the latter of which she has vehemently denied.
The duo, 31 and 38, were among the big names who landed coveted nods at Thursday's Academy Award nominations event.
