Meghan Markle has been accused of 'destroying Italian food' after showcasing her staple pasta recipe.
The Duchess of Sussex's highly-anticipated Netflix series, With Love, which aired today, follows her sharing her best cookery, gardening and hosting tips to help viewers "find the fun in every day moments". The mother-of-two is joined by a host of celebrity pals, including Suits co-star Abigail Spencer, actor Mindy Kaling and chef Roy Choi.
In the first episode of the series, the mother-of-two unveils her favourite pasta dish, which she regularly cooks for Prince Harry and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. But while it's a huge hit at home, some people watching the show were left questioning her technique, with a few viewers noting that it goes against the Italian way.
She tells her friend Daniel how she cooks the spaghetti in boiling water with feta and tomatoes (Image:

She makes reference to her previous blog, The Tig, and adds: "This skillet spaghetti would have been on there."
To make the dish, Meghan places a packet of dry spaghetti into a Le Creuset skillet pan, on top of feta and tomatoes, and pours three and a half cups of boiling water on, then puts a lid on it. "You just pour boiling water on top and that's it," she explains, after adding lots of lemon zest. When the pasta is almost cooked, she adds chard and kale.
Some viewers have taken to social media to slam Meghan's technique, which isn't the traditional way (Image:
Netflix)Traditionally, pasta would be boiled in a large, deep pot of salted boiling water and added to sauce. One Italian took to social media site X to suggest that pouring boiling water from a kettle onto "raw" pasta goes against "the basics" of Italian cookery. Another viewer criticised the dish, writing: "Another American destroying Italian food."
However, some viewers stuck up for the duchess, with one responding to backlash over Meghan calling spaghetti 'noodles'. They said: "I have American friends who say noodles for spaghetti, no idea why, but then they have other food they call different names to us... zucchini for courgette for example. It's no big deal."
Another shared how Meghan had encouraged them to make a quick and easy pasta salad, writing: "Ordinarily I loathe cooking but Meghan's inspired me to find the joy in it - not perfection." While another person said: "That pasta - a must to try and make. Duchess Meghan makes it all look so easy and doable. I'm hooked already."
