Melania Trump Embodies 'I-Don't-Care, Do You? Mode' in Beanie & Sunglasses During First Official Visit to North Carolina: 'A Little Too Casual'

Melania Trump has stepped out as the 47th First Lady for the first time, and her fashion choice has tongues wagging. On Friday, she joined her husband, Donald Trump, for their first official trip since taking office on Monday.
The first couple touched down in Asheville, North Carolina, from Washington, D.C., to visit victims of Hurricane Helene, which swept through the state last September. Due to the harsh temperatures, Donald and Melania were bundled up for their trip. The president kept it simple, wearing a long black peacoat over navy slacks and a black jacket. He held on to a black MAGA cap, finishing his look with brown shoes.

On the other hand, Melania opted for a more relaxed look despite visiting in the official capacity of the first lady. The former model looked casual in an army-green puffer jacket, black pants, and matching combat boots. She accessorized with black-and-gold aviator sunglasses and a black beanie. The stylish puffer jacket is from New York brand Rag & Bone and retails for $400.
Walking next to her husband, Melania kept her hands in her jacket for most of the visit while he chatted with the press about his plans. During a chat with residents, President Trump gushed about how the first lady was enthusiastic about visiting the state. “We’ll start with our first lady. She wanted to be here because of North Carolina,” he told reporters. “And then I said, ‘Well, you can do that, but you’re going to have to come to California, too.’ And she said, ‘That’s okay.'” The Slovenian native couldn’t help but break a smile when her husband praised her.
Melania’s outfit for her North Carolina trip is undoubtedly reminiscent of her controversial 2018 look. Recall that during a visit to New Hope Children’s Shelter in McAllen, Texas, the first lady wore a green trench coat with “I really don’t care, do u?” written in graffiti. Mrs. Trump was on her way to meet migrant children separated from their parents at the border. The unusual outfit for a first lady caused immense backlash, with citizens calling Melania “tone deaf.”
Although the Slovenia native opted for graphic-free outfits this time, some fans still think it isn’t the most befitting look for the First Lady of the United States.
“Melania in “I-Don’t Care, Do You?” Mode as she accompanies President Trump to see the North Carolinian victims,” one fan wrote.
“Not loving the beanie. A little too casual for a First Lady look, even for this type of visit. But she looks beautiful,” a second citizen added.
“Anyone check the back of her jacket?” a third comment mocked.
With her husband’s second return to the White House, Melania Trump’s fashion choice has been under more intense scrutiny. The defiant first lady seems to be playing it safe this time, but some might argue she is going too far.
