Monday, Jan. 20 was not only Donald Trump‘s Inauguration Day, but it was also a federal holiday honoring Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Given the great political divide in America right now, not everyone was celebrating the 47th President of the United States, including former First Lady Michelle Obama.

Americans knew that Michelle wasn’t going to attend Donald Trump’s second inauguration after her office confirmed her absence. “Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” read a statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama, per The Washington Post on Jan. 14. Her representative did not offer a reason for her absence, but we knew why.

As the inauguration got underway in Washington, D.C. got underway, Michelle made a very big statement on Instagram. She posted an image of MLK Jr. with his famous quote, “The time is always right to do what is right.” She added her own thoughts in the caption: “Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy of service always inspires me. This #MLKDay, I hope you’ll join me and @WhenWeAllVote in honoring Dr. King’s life and legacy by getting involved in your community. Whether you’re mentoring students at your local school or volunteering for a cause that matters to you, it all helps make a difference. Tell me how you’re giving back today in the comments.”

The call to action inspired supporters to voice their opinions about her taking an implied stance against a second Donald Trump administration. “God bless you and thank you for your wisdom ????,” wrote one follower. “We are celebrating him today and not this nonsense in the capital,” added another fan. And of course, there’s always one person who gets right down to business with their thoughts, writing, “We ain’t watching that ish either queen!! Let’s find something good to watch today!

Michelle’s thoughts about Donald Trump aren’t new. She was very clear in her 2018 memoir, Becoming, about how he made her family feel with his “birther” theory, questioning Barack Obama’s U.S. citizenship. “What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington? What if that person went looking for our girls? Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this, I’d never forgive him,” she wrote.

A People source confirmed that Michelle’s opinion of Donald Trump had not changed over the last seven years. “There’s no overstating her feelings about [Trump]. She’s not one to plaster on a pleasant face and pretend for protocol’s sake,” an insider divulged. “Michelle doesn’t do anything because it’s expected or it’s protocol or it’s tradition.”

For Michelle, it appears Jan. 20 is Martin Luther King Jr. Day only, there’s nothing else to acknowledge.
