Millie Bobby Brown addresses criticism about her appearance
Matt Lucas has publicly apologised to Millie Bobby Brown after she angrily called him out to her 63 million Instagram followers.
The drama started last week, when the Little Britain creator took aim at Millie, 21, over photos of her going for dinner with her little sister in Los Angeles. In the pics, Millie styled her bleach blonde hair in a high updo, and wore a light pink zipped sweatshirt along with baggy black trousers, accessorising with large silver hoop earrings.
Matt, 50, saw a parallel between Millieâs outfit and the classic hair, tracksuit, and hoops sported by his Little Britain character Vicky Pollard, and was quick to make a joke at the Stranger Things starâs expense. On X, formerly known as Twitter, he reposted images of Millie and captioned them with Vickyâs famous saying: âNo but yeah but,â with thousands of his fans agreeing that they looked alike.
Some people took Mattâs joke as a rude blasting of Millieâs looks, and the actress herself raised his name in a video addressing the recent criticism of her appearance.

In the video posted on Instagram on Monday, Millie sat makeup-free as she said: âI want to take a moment to address something that I think is bigger than just me, something that affects every young woman who grows up under public scrutiny.â
Later, she read out article titles which had questioned her looks, including one mentioning the comedian. Millie sadly said: âLittle Britainâs Matt Lucas takes savage swipe at Millie Bobby Brownâs new âmommy makeoverâ look, written by Bethan Edwards, amplifying an insult rather than questioning why a grown man is mocking a young womanâs appearance. This isnât journalism. This is bullying.â
After sharing more about the criticism she was facing, Enola Holmes star Millie concluded: âLetâs do better. Not just for me, but for every young girl who deserves to grow up without fear of being torn apart for simply existing.â
Matt responded to Millieâs call out just four hours later, explaining his meaning and apologising for causing offence. On Instagram, he wrote: âDear Millie, I just saw your post and wanted to respond, and provide some context. Nearly 25 years ago I co-wrote and appeared in a sketch show called Little Britain.
âThere was a character in it called Vicky Pollard, who had blonde hair and always wore a pink top, and in the photo you had blonde hair and wore a pink top so I pointed out the similarity by posting one of her catchphrases. I thought you looked terrific and I was mortified when the press wrote that I âslammedâ you, firstly because thatâs not my style, and secondly because I think youâre brilliant. I would not have posted it if I had thought it would have upset you but I realise it has and for that I apologise. Matt.â
