Naga Munchetty skewered as 'out of touch' BBC slammed by GB News star
GB News presenter Patrick Christys ripped into Naga Munchetty after the BBC Breakfast host questioned why Kemi Badenoch hadn't watched Netflix's Adolescence.
GB News presenter Patrick Christys called out the BBC following Kemi Badenoch's interview with the broadcaster. The Conservative Party leader appeared on BBC Breakfast on Friday (April 11) to discuss local elections with presenters Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty, but the conversation soon turned to the Netflix drama, Adolescence. It came after prime minister Sir Keir Starmer announced during a meeting with the creators of Adolescence that the show would be made free to watch in all British schools.
Munchetty, 50, didn't hold back as she grilled the politician on why she was yet to watch the four-part series, which she called a "documentary" Before playing a clip of the interview on GB News, presenter Patrick Christys asked viewers to take a look at "the way the BBC decided to treat this". Christys took aim at the presenter as he continued: "Naga Munchetty went on to call it a documentary, seriously, with a straight face, not once but twice."
He later slammed the BBC, saying: "What I found absolutely bonkers was that the BBC had the leader of the opposition there. We had all sorts of stuff going on in the news and they revisited a story from at least two weeks ago about Kemi Badenoch where she'd not watched Adolescence and they hauled her over the coals for it and called it a documentary.
"Doesn't that tell you everything you need to know about how out of touch the BBC is?"
During the interview, Badenoch admitted it is unlikely that she will watch Adolescence after being asked if she had seen it yet. "No, no, I havenât. I probably wonât. Itâs a film on Netflix and most of my time right now is spent visiting [people] in this country," she said.
After being probed about why she had no interest in watching it, Badenoch reiterated: "Those are all important issues, and theyâre all issues Iâve been talking about for a long time.
"But for the same reason that I donât need to watch Casualty to know whatâs going on in the NHS, I donât need to watch a Netflix drama to understand whatâs going on [in schools]. Itâs a fictional series, itâs not a documentary.
She added: "Iâve been talking about banning smartphones in schools. I was at a school in Evesham just yesterday talking to headteachers and students about [the issues they face]."
Munchetty snapped back by arguing that Adolescence has already "made more of an impact" in schools by getting to the heart of the problem before the conversation turned back to political issues.
