Netflix is set to welcome a fan-favourite black comedy to its roster with the arrival of Sick Note this coming Monday, February 10. The series features Harry Potter alum Rupert Grint and Nick Frost as the duo Daniel Glass and Dr Iain Glennis.
Originally premiering in 2017 on Sky One, Sick Note made headlines when it was announced that a second series had been greenlit even before the first had hit the screens. Despite high expectations, the show found itself in a state of uncertainty, with a third season never materialising.
The show's creator and writer, Nat Saunders, took to Twitter in 2021 to describe the series as "neither recommissioned or cancelled, just in TV show limbo" when quizzed about its future. He expressed doubts about its return, stating: "I'm gonna take a wild guess and say it's most likely not coming back."
James Serafinowicz, who co-wrote the series, shared similar sentiments, revealing that they "wrote the first 2 episodes of season 3 but nothing ever happened".
Sick Note is coming to Netflix on February 10His tweet lamented, "I don't even know if they were read", and resignedly noted: "I think it'll be forever be unresolved unfortunately."
Sick Note follows the story of insurance agent Daniel Glass, who is wrongly diagnosed with terminal oesophageal cancer by his bumbling doctor. As Daniel notices people treating him better because of his supposed illness, he opts to perpetuate the deception.
This leads to an escalating web of lies and secrets, forcing Daniel and his doctor to collaborate in order to keep up the charade for their mutual benefit.
Fans have been buzzing on Reddit about a particularly binge-worthy series, offering up plenty of praise for its gripping nature. One fan posted: "I haven't had this much fun watching a show in a while. Every episode almost ends with a cliff hanger (which I would've HATED if I saw it originally air weekly), but binging it was a lot of fun."
Embracing the format, Iamstephano chimed in with their take: "I thought it was pretty funny most of the time, if the episodes were longer it probably wouldn't work as well, it's pretty easy to binge a bunch of episodes without it becoming stale."
MandyPandyxox piped up in agreement, delighted with the series' unexpected turns: "I'm glad someone else here liked it! I just finished watching it and thought it was hilarious with all the ridiculous twists and turns it takes."
Rupert Grint played an insurance agentAnother fan jumped into the conversation, highlighting the show's unique charm: "I like the ridiculousness of it and its dark dark humour. I didn't expect the fate of some characters. I was totally thinking this show would be episodic but it's super suspenseful and kept getting more addictive."
The sentiment was echoed by ConfusedGrasshopper: "Yeah so damn bingeable! It's one of those shows I find myself pausing all the time because I cant take the suspense."
Unfortunately for US viewers looking to join the thrill ride, it seems they'll be left wanting; the show was pulled from Netflix stateside back in November 2023.
