Netflix has released the trailer for Happy Gilmore 2, and fans of the Adam Sandler comedy have reacted warmly.
The movie is a long-awaited sequel to 1996 hit Happy Gilmore, a breakthrough role for the star who plays a failed ice hockey player discovers a talent for golf and competes in tournaments to help stop the foreclosure of his motherâs house.

In the new trailer, we pick up nearly 30 years later with Happy (Sandler) looking at busts of great golfers, only to see his own with an unflattering likeness. The clip then promises the story of him coming back to the golf scene after years ago, trying to find his âhappy placeâ again.
Alongside Sandler, the clip shows Ben Stiller returning to his role as abusive orderly Hal, Julie Bowen as his love interest Virginia, and Christopher McDonald as Happyâs nemesis Shooter McGavin. Joining the original actors will be Bad Bunny as Happyâs caddy, Benny Safdie in an undisclosed role, and Eminem in a cameo appearance.
The first film has a large fanbase, and as such the arrival of the sequelâs trailer has been met with enthusiasm on X (formerly Twitter). âYes!!!! Best news of the week, year, maybe decade?!?!â said one, with another asserting: âAdam knows what his fans wantâ.

Some hold the first movie in such high esteem that they are cautious about a follow up. âHappy Gilmore is my âhappy placeâ, pls be goodâ said one, with another adding: âMost sequels arenât as good as the first movie ⦠but I donât f$#%ing care! Iâm all in for this!â

One dissenting voice took that idea further, saying: âI will be running for president in 2028 and the first issue in my platform is âno more reviving good movies for an un needed sequel 20-30 years too lateââ.
Happy Gilmore 2 arrives on Netflix July 25. Recently, Sandler won the hearts of Oscars viewers by turning up to the ceremony in a hoodie and shorts.
