New Alton Towers ride Toxicator 'evacuated' and shut on first day
Bosses at the theme park have confirmed the incident was due to a water pipe leak nearby
Alton Towers has issued a statement after its newest ride was forced to temporarily close on its first day.
Thrill-seekers had turned up at the theme park, near Stoke-on-Trent, on the opening day of the 2025 season hoping to be among the first to sample its latest attraction - the Toxicator.

Bosses unveiled plans for the ride on January 13 of this year. Initially dubbed 'Project Ocean', the Huss Suspended Top Spin can be found in the Forbidden Valley section of the 910-acre site.
It is the highest ride of its kind, standing at 78ft tall. Toxicator is also the only top spin in the world elevated above ground level, creating a unique experience where spectators can watch the ride in action from underneath it.

But some rollercoaster fans were forced to temporarily put their excitement on hold this afternoon (March 15) as the brand new ride was forced to close.
According to eyewitnesses, a brown liquid had begun leaking at the entrance to the ride. Bosses at Alton Towers have since denied reports this was sewage - and instead was down to a burst pipe nearby.
An official told the M.E.N. the ride had to be momentarily paused while a clean-up operation was undertaken. They added: "People were allowed back on in less than an hour."
According to eyewitnesses, the leak prompted an 'evacuation of the ride area'. Referencing the name of the attraction, another jokingly described it as a 'toxic incident'.
Replying to a guest of the park on social media, a spokesperson for Alton Towers said: "Regrettably, Toxicator has paused operation due to a burst pipe close to the ride. We apologise to fans for any inconvenience caused. We do not expect the ride to re-open today. Please check the Alton Towers Resort App for further updates."
Prior to its official launch, some theme park fans have already been comparing it to the former Ripsaw ride, an old favourite that premiered in 1997 and was around for almost two decades.
But bosses at the Staffordshire theme park have been quick to defend Toxicator, explaining that it's a completely different experience.
Promising to thrash daredevils through several wild spinning manoeuvres, Toxicator flips riders back-to-back and suspending them face-down over a seething pool of toxic extra-terrestrial sludge.
ON days when it is fully operational, the ride will welcome over 500 riders per hour.

The ride is located in the Forbidden Valley, which is a "battleground of otherworldly aliens, suspicious scientific experiments and military might", according to the Alton Towers website.
