New holiday trend taking over the travel industry in 2025
A new report has revealed that the top travel trends for 2025 are all about combining travel with fitness and wellness - and it's not just about the gym...
Coined as the year of 'Holisti-Days' and 'Efficient Escapism', tourists are on the hunt for activity-filled breaks designed to enhance mental health through relaxation and digital detoxes.
The study by Neilson Beach Clubs, as part of their wider report on travel trends, found that while unwinding remains a priority, two-thirds of holidaymakers are now looking for breaks that bring a bit more than just laying on the beach.
Three-quarters of travellers already incorporate fitness into their trips, with activities such as walking, running, and swimming being popular choices. Meanwhile, 'Sightseeing Striders' has already taken off for 12%, who have merging competitive sports such as a Marathon or 10k, with travel.
Another emerging trend is 'Efficient Escapism', where short, activity-filled breaks appeal to those with hectic schedules but still have a thirst for adventure. Meanwhile, 'Sightseeing Striders' are merging competitive sport with travel, transforming sightseeing into a physical challenge.
A third of those surveyed stated that staying active on holiday enhanced their mental health, while another 29 per cent felt it helped alleviate stress.
Ass these perceptions towards holidays evolve, over half now believe maintaining health and fitness is crucial while away, with 37 per cent even sticking to their usual gym routines.
How Brits are now spending their holidays (Image: 72Point)"Fitness and wellbeing can be combined with enjoying time off from the everyday routine. A simple change of scenery can inspire you and your family to find time for fitness and relaxation," said David Taylor, CEO of Neilson Beach Clubs.
A significant 31 per cent of holidaymakers are now prepared to splash out more cash for breaks featuring wellness and exercise opportunities, showing that activity-packed vacations are in demand.
And it appears the options are plentiful. Many are choosing to opt in for high-energy classes, while others are taking part in aquatic activities like dinghy sailing or wakeboarding.
Interestingly, it's parents who are at the forefront of trend, eager to use it as an opportunity to get their children outside and away from their screens.
Taylor highlighted, "Limiting screen time means kids can explore new activities like rock climbing or water skiing," but he closed by emphasising the importance of a balanced vacation that leaves space for both cultural experiences and the rejuvenating aspects of an on-the-go holiday.
