A huge snow bomb is set to blanket parts of Britain in a matter of weeks, new weather maps show.
This weekend has been largely sunny across much of the UK, but according to WXCharts, the country will be once again battered by bitterly cold weather and snowy conditions later this month. Maps for March 11 show that snow will be covering an area stretching from Brighton on the south coast all the way up to Newcastle, with London, Cambridge, Nottingham and York not escaping the flurries.
These areas could experience 1cm per hour of snow, the maps show. Scotland and Wales might also experience some snowfall but not as heavy as the other parts of England.
Temperatures will plunge below zero degrees (Image:
WX CHARTS)Mixed in amongst the snow flurries are also stretches of rain, which could reach up to 1mm per hour in areas including Kent, Norfolk and Newcastle, the Express reports. Temperatures are expected to plunge below zero degrees across much of the country.
These conditions are set to continue on March 13, with all but one region battling snow, torrential rain, or a combination of the two. Data from WXCharts suggests snow could be falling at a rate of around one centimetre per hour across the Yorkshire Dales from midnight - with lighter flurries covering the Scottish Highlands and the Cairngorms between Inverness and Edinburgh. The only place in the country not to be affected by rain or snow appears to be the northeast coast.
Currently, the Met Office's long-range forecast from March 7 to March 16 says: "Likely mild at the start of this period and feeling warm in any sunny spells. However, conditions will be fairly changeable with a chance of showers or longer spells of rain across all areas, these more likely, at least at first, in the west. How weather patterns evolve during the following week is unclear but there is an increased chance that high pressure will become more dominant for a time from the north.

During the second half of March, there is likely to be "a mixture of unsettled and settled spells" with temperatures likely to be warmer, forecasters added. The long-range forecast from March 17 to March 31: "Confidence is low in prevailing weather patterns through this period.
"There is likely to be a mixture of unsettled and settled spells but it is unclear which will be more dominant. As is typical, parts of the west and northwest will probably be wetter overall with drier conditions in the southeast. Above average temperatures are more likely than below though some colder spells remain possible during late March."
UK 5 day weather forecastThis Evening and Tonight:Rain arriving into northwest Scotland through this evening, turning lighter as it pushes south and reaches Northern Ireland and northern England by dawn. Clear skies elsewhere, with fog patches and a widespread frost developing.
Monday:Cloudy for western Scotland, Northern Ireland and northwest England, with light rain over hills. Dry and fine elsewhere with sunny spells after freezing fog patches disperse. Windy for northern Scotland.
Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:Remaining largely dry across southern areas with sunny spells by day then frost and fog overnight. More cloud further north, with rain and strong winds at times. Turning milder.
