Nintendo shares tumble as Switch 2 reveal disappoints fans
Japanese gaming company’s stock price falls as much as 7.2 percent as teaser for new console fails to impress.
Economy|Entertainment
Nintendo shares have taken a tumble after the gaming giant’s hotly anticipated reveal of its follow-up to the Switch left some fans disappointed.
The Japanese gaming company’s stock price fell as much as 7.2 percent on Friday after a teaser video for the Switch 2 suggested the console would be broadly similar to its wildly popular predecessor.
The company recovered some of its losses in the afternoon, with its share price down about 4.2 percent as of 4pm local time.
“Nintendo played it safe. Switch 2 looks underwhelming at best and a completely unexcited rehash of the same old same old at worst,” gaming YouTuber TwoQuickOnes said in a post on X.
While Nintendo’s teaser did not provide technical specifications, it showed a device with a nearly identical appearance and form to the original hybrid console.
Compared with the original Switch, the new console has a larger screen and features controllers that snap on to the device instead of sliding into place as before.
The two-minute teaser also revealed a new instalment in the long-running Mario Kart series of games.

The Kyoto-based company said it would reveal more details about the console at a Nintendo Direct event on April 2.
The Switch, released in 2017, has sold more than 146 million units worldwide, making it the third most popular console ever after Sony’s PlayStation 2 and Nintendo’s DS.
The console’s explosive popularity helped restore Nintendo to steady profitability after years of weak sales of the poorly received Wii U console.
The response from lead actor Cynthia Erivo has armed Zion Houseton with even more confidence to take the stage.

SBS’s upcoming drama “Buried Hearts” has unveiled new stills, offering a glimpse into Heo Joon Ho’s character!
“Buried Hearts” tells the story of a man who manages to hack a political slush fund account worth 2 trillion won (approximately $1.36 billion) and the man who kills him without knowing he’s been hacked—thus accidentally losing the entire 2 trillion won.
Heo Joon Ho takes on the role of Yum Jang Sun, a wealthy and powerful professor who was formerly the head of the National Intelligence Service (NIS). Portrayed as a ruthless villain, Yum Jang Sun derives pleasure from being able to control others like puppets, wielding his power without remorse. In the drama, he faces off against Seo Dong Joo (Park Hyung Sik).
The newly released stills showcase Heo Joon Ho’s commanding presence as Yum Jang Sun. In one photo, he is captured with a satisfied smile as he holds a glass of wine, with his eyes gleaming with malice. The image exudes an eerie atmosphere, leaving viewers intrigued about the dark motives behind his character.
Another still highlights his stocky, imposing build. Despite his casual attire—a plain undershirt—his large shoulders and muscular arms hint at his formidable influence, showing that his power extends beyond just wealth.
The production team of the drama teased, “Heo Joon Ho will showcase the true essence of portraying a mad villain through his character Yum Jang Sun.” They continued, “Please show lots of interest and anticipation for Heo Joon Ho’s outstanding performance, as he is set to rewrite the history of villainous characters through ‘Buried Hearts.’”
“Buried Hearts” is scheduled to premiere on February 14 at 10 p.m. KST.
