You wonât see Oasis performing at the Super Bowl anytime soon.
Mere days after Kendrick Lamar delivered a controversial Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, powered by Apple Music, Noel Gallagher has made it known he wasnât a fan, calling it âabsolute nonsense!â
In an interview with TalkSPORT, the Britpop legend made his feelings known. âI didnât watch it all, I just switched it offâŚ. There was like 300 people getting out of a car in the first two minutes,â he declared, before denouncing the Super Bowl extravaganza. âI donât like the halftime nonsense, itâs usually artists I donât like⌠I never watch it. Iâm not interested in it.â
It seems Noelâs distaste extends to corporate Americaâs monopoly of not just music, but wider entertainment and sport. âAmericans are taking over our sport,â he continued. âTheyâve taken over the Premier League, and theyâll take over the Champions League too. Trust me, in 20 years, itâll all be nonsense,â he added.
Regardless of Noel Gallagherâs views, Kendrick Lamarâs halftime show attracted a combined 133.5 million viewers domestically across broadcast television and streaming platforms, surpassing Michael Jacksonâs performance at Super Bowl XXVII in 1993 as the most viewed halftime show in the United States.
In a review of the halftime show, editor Robin Murray wrote that Kendrick Lamar managed to blend homegrown mythology and mayhem in a dizzying set focused mostly on his recent album, âGNXâ.
âThere was a curious shift at this yearâs Super Bowl, with the previous anti-racism messages swapped for CHOOSE LOVE at pitch-side. Kendrick Lamar chose hate â this era might not have the profound longevity of âTo Pimp A Butterflyâ, but itâs just as impactful.â
