NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio –
OVI: Lorain Road
A male driver is facing charges including operating a vehicle while intoxicated after an officer spotted his car weaving on Lorain Road near Stearns Road.
An alcohol breath test revealed the man’s blood-alcohol level was twice the legal limit, according to a police report.
The officer stopped the man’s car at 9:14 p.m. on Jan. 24. The driver initially stopped, but as the officer pulled in behind his vehicle, the driver appeared to attempt a U-turn to drive past the patrol car. The officer yelled out his window for the driver to stop, which he did, according to the police report.
The driver smelled of an alcoholic beverage, slurred his speech, and stated he was coming from a bar where he “had three beers and one shot.” The driver stumbled after he was instructed to get out of his car. He initially “began to argue” when asked to perform field sobriety tests but eventually complied. He had trouble maintaining his balance during the tests, and he asked the officer if he could hold onto him for balance. The officer told him he could not.
A breath test revealed a blood-alcohol content of 0.161, which was double the legal limit of 0.08, according to the report.
The officer charged the suspect with OVI, weaving, and failing to drive within marked lanes.
