Olivia Holt dreams of playing Britney Spears in biopic
Olivia Holt says she would be "honoured" to take on the role of Britney Spears in the biopic about the singer that is being directed by Jon M. Chu.
Olivia Holt says it "would be a dream" to play Britney Spears in a biopic.
The 27-year-old actress and singer shares the same Disney roots as the 'Womanizer' hitmaker and believes it would be a privilege to play the pop star in the movie that is being helmed by 'Wicked' director Jon M. Chu.
Olivia told Variety at the premiere of her new movie 'Heart Eyes': "I would be so honoured to play Britney."
She added: "I'm just so grateful to be in the running and around so many names and talent who are in the running for it. Just the idea that I am on people's minds to play something as iconic as this, would be a dream."
Holt is a big fan of Britney's music and would be happy to perform her tunes in a potential movie.
The 'Cruel Summer' star said: "I could go way back and we can do a little 'I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet a Woman'. That's kind of my favourite.
"But I also love the 'Circus' era. There are so many eras of Britney. How could you choose?"
Chu previously said that Britney would be "very involved" in the biopic – which is adapted from her 2023 memoir 'The Woman in Me'.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the Golden Globes last month, the 45-year-old director said: "She [Britney] is going to be very involved.
"We haven't really started anything yet; but she will be very involved.
"I have ideas and an approach and things, but it's very, very early."
Fans have suggested stars such as Sabrina Carpenter and Sydney Sweeney as potential names to portray the 'Lucky' singer and Jon is open to ideas.
He said: "I have seen all the fan castings and all that stuff and I always take those in consideration, because maybe there is a good idea out there, but we will have to see what the approach of the movie is before we know who is right for it.
"But I am hoping for anything, really."
The 'Crazy Rich Asians' filmmaker recently revealed he saw a different side to Britney after reading 'The Woman in Me' and he wants to "honour" her "human" side.
He told Bustle: "She’s always been this icon, but ultimately, especially more recently after reading her book, she’d become human to me.
"I think that is so beautiful. I hope to convey that humanity and the spectacle of what she is in all her glory.
"(I want to explore) what we expect from people that we think are ours. They’re their own people, and we have to respect that."
