Oscars 2025: Complete list of winners at the 97th annual Academy Awards
The complete list and the best moments from the 97th annual Academy Awards.
The 97th annual Academy Awards was a night of anticipated twists and turns that never manifested. Void of nearly any surprises (except that Best Actress category, more on that in a moment), the Oscars were handed out to largely expected winners, with awards being spread out across many films instead of one dominating the night. Wicked, Emilia PĂ©rez, Anora, Dune: Part Two, and The Brutalist all took home multiple awards.
Here is a recap of the night and a complete list of winners:
At a certain point in the broadcast it felt like every film would win something, that's how spread out the awards were. It was only at the end of the night that The Brutalist and Anora edged ahead in their Oscars count, taking home three and five awards respectively, including Best Picture for Anora.
Even though Anora slightly dominated the night, Wicked's influence could be felt from the very beginning. Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo opened the show with a musical medley that proved to everybody (if you weren't already aware) that Wicked was the movie of the year, even if it didn't win the Oscar for Best Picture.

If there was a surprise of the night, it was Mikey Madison winning the Best Actress category for Anora. All season it had been a race between Demi Moore for The Substance and Madison, with many predicting Moore would take home the gold because she had won the biggest predictor, the Screen Actors Guild Award. But Madison had a few surprise wins, notably for winning a prestigious BAFTA award, while Anora swept both the Director's Guild and the Producer's Guild Awards.
Anora's director, Sean Baker, also broke a record, winning the most Oscars in a single year by one person for a single film.
Madison previously spoke with Newsweek's Parting Shot Podcast with H. Alan Scott about Anora. (Listen to their full chat.) "It's been a dream of mine to have that kind of collaboration with a filmmaker like Sean [Baker]," Madison said.
Playing Ani, a young sex worker who falls for the son of a Russian oligarch, she said, "I did a lot of work to bring her to life, I knew everything about her, and I was able to just very easily slip into that character and feel all the things she was feeling."
Overall, host Conan O'Brien struck a nice balance throughout the night of his usual weird comedy mixed with an oddly appropriate (even respectable) tone for the Academy Awards. In his opening monologue, he danced between poking fun at TimothĂ©e Chalamet (his suit, his age, etc.) and Emilia PĂ©rez's Karla SofĂa GascĂłn for her controversial tweets (if you know, you know). Mostly void of politics, O'Brien still acknowledged the troubling state of the world, from the wildfires that ravaged Los Angeles to divisive politics. In the legacy of Oscars hosts, O'Brien did an underwhelming yet serviceable job as host.
Throughout the night there were many tributes, including presentations for the James Bond franchise, Quincy Jones, and Gene Hackman. Mostly free of politics, O'Brien didn't fully avoid controversial topics, touching on things like President Donald Trump's recent White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar feud, and the rise of A.I.
