During his monologue, which included a dedication to Los Angeles after the recent wildfires, as well as a song about not wasting time during the ceremony, he also did comedy bits about some of this yearâs nominated films.
Among his targets was Emilia Pérez, which has drawn controversy in recent weeks following resurfaced tweets from star Karla Sofia Gascón, who is up for Best Actress.
In the posts, Gascon made derogatory comments about Muslim people, the murder of George Floyd and the Oscars. She later released a statement and said that her posts were taken out of context, denying that she was racist. She attended the ceremony this evening, with Netflix reportedly paying for her expenses.
While referring to fellow nominee Anora, OâBrien quipped: âLittle fact for you, Anora uses the F-word 479 times â thatâs three more times than the record set by Karla Sofia Gascónâs publicist.â
