Oscars viewers fume as ITV star takes swipe at Demi Moore and The Substance
The 97th Academy Awards took place at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, but ITV viewers were left fuming at one star's swipe at Oscar nominated film The Substance

ITV's coverage of The 97th Academy Awards left some viewers less than impressed, particularly due to one guest's comments on an Oscar-nominated film. Jonathan Ross led the channel's Oscars coverage, joined by actor Jason Isaacs, journalist Mariella Frostrup and film expert Elle Osili-Wood.
Before the ceremony kicked off at LA's Dolby Theatre, the panel discussed The Substance - a body horror nominated for Best Picture that earned Demi Moore her first Oscar nod at 62. However, Loose Women regular Mariella Frostrup didn't seem too taken with the critically acclaimed film during her chat with Jonathan on ITV. "Substance is a very strange choice. If you like gore you will love it. If you don't, not much to take home," she commented.

All Rights Reserved)"The reason it is in there is because it feels like it's important. It's about ageing. It's about masochism. It's a headline film with very little underneath it. I don't think it explores anything it sets out to confront and frankly Demi is described as a fading actress but she is absolutely drop dead gorgeous. And if I looked like her naked I would take my clothes off all the time. If you start to unpick it it makes no sense whatsoever. It is not an important film in what it has to say."
One irked ITV viewer exclaimed: "Get this blonde bobbed lady off this sofa. hating the substance AND anora? have some FUN #ITVOscars," Another viewer commented: "that blonde *** slagging off The Substance needs to be thrown in the bin. Maybe get people who understand the films before putting them on the panel? #ITVOscars," while a third chimed in with: "this woman clearly just doesn't respect the horror genre, saying the substance has no message? ? ? #ITVOscars."
Mikey Madison, 25, beat Hollywood stalwart Demi Moore to take home the best actress gong for her role in the comedy AnoraHowever, Demi was beaten at the Oscars by Mikey Madison, 25. She won the best actress gong for her role in the comedy Anora, in which she plays a stripper who falls for the son of a Russian oligarch.
Demi had won the leading actress accolade at last week's SAG Awards. During her heartfelt acceptance speech, Moore, who portrays a TV fitness instructor turning to a miracle drug after losing her job, shared how joining the acting organisation at 15 "changed my life because it gave me meaning".
She continued: "It gave me purpose. It gave direction. I was a kid on my own who had no blueprint for life. I knew nothing about acting, but I watched and I listened and I learned from all of you. You have all been my greatest teachers. I am so grateful that I have continued over these so many years to be able to try and sometimes succeed and sometimes fail, but to be able to keep going."
