Our expert predictions for Australian Open Men’s semifinals Djokovic vs. Zverev, Sinner vs. Shelton prop bets
Tennis betting expert Phil Naessens shares his latest prop bet predictions for the upcoming Australian Open Men's semifinals featuring Novak Djokovic vs. Alexander Zverev and Jannik Sinner vs. Ben Shelton.
The road to the 2025 Men’s Singles edition of the Australian Open is nearing its end, and we have a pair of Men’s semifinal matches on Friday that should be highly entertaining.
Ten-time Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic meets Alexander Zverev to open the day followed by defending champion Jannik Sinner meeting Ben Shelton in the nightcap.
Join me as I share my best prop bets for the 2025 Australian Open Men’s Singles semifinal matchups on January 24.
Novak Djokovic vs. Alexander Zverev predictions for the Australian Open semifinalOver 22.5 aces (-118 at FanDuel) Alexander Zverev Total Games Over 19.5 (-120 at DraftKings) Over 41.5 games (-115 at Caesars)Novak Djokovic is trying to prove that Father Time isn’t undefeated.
He’s done well thus far, but he has a tough assignment: standing on the other side of the net is Alexander Zverev, who is probably the better player in both situations.
While both men possess tremendous returns, I expect each man to come out firing in the first semi, so I’m betting the Over on the Aces prop.
Both men will look to win behind their serve. Djokovic will be looking to shorten the points on his serve, while Zverev will hope to extend the match by holding his own.
Both should be able to do what they like with their serve. That’s why I like this match to likely go the distance, and why I’m betting on the Over on Zverev’s game total, and also why I’m playing the Over in the match total as well.
The two’s recent head-to-head history demands that both bets be placed. Five of their last six matches have gone the distance, and if this one does as well, Zverev will easily clear his game total prop, as will the match total.
Jannik Sinner vs. Ben Shelton predictions for the Australian Open semifinalBen Shelton Over 10.5 Aces (-110 at FanDuel) Total Aces Over 18.5 (-110 at FanDuel) Over 33.5 Games (-118 at DraftKings)The second semifinal, between World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Ben Shelton, could set sound records as these guys get after it with their service games.
Shelton’s probable plan would likely be to turn this match into a series of tiebreakers.
He’s launched the ninth most (56) and, across the past 52 weeks, is averaging 9.5 freebies per match.
That’s why my first prop bet for this matchup is for Shelton to serve 11+ bombs. He must serve big, and he’s done that throughout this fortnight.
If he does, he’ll punch at least 11 by the Italian No. 1, and that should also help Shelton cover the match spread.
Sinner has some pop on his stick as well. He’s averaged fewer aces per match (7.5) than Shelton, but he’s held serve a whopping 91% of the time across the past 52 weeks.
Shelton isn’t the best returner on tour, so I anticipate at least 19 aces between Friday’s AO semifinalists.
Thirty-three games for a best-of-five men’s match featuring two big bombers on a fast hardcourt, possibly played indoors?
Sign me up for that all day.
Sinner owns the head-to-head (4-1), but they’ve played at least one breaker in each of their five previous matches, and two of those five matches have gone the distance.
I don’t anticipate Sinner losing, but I expect Shelton to come out firing. If he drags Sinner into even one tiebreaker, which I believe he will, this match will soar over the DraftKings total.
