Peter Kay Breaks Silence On Reports About Having 2 Hecklers Thrown Out Of His Show
He has also responded to the controversy brought about when he compared one of the hecklers to TV star Lisa Riley.
Peter Kay has responded to reports of a disturbance at his show in Manchester over the weekend.
On Saturday night, the stand-up comic performed a show at Manchesterâs AO Arena, with the comedy site Chortle reporting that the Car Share star had to call on security to eject two people.
The first of these, a man, seemingly would not stop shouting Peterâs Phoenix Nights catchphrase âgarlic bread?â at him, prompting the comedian to have the houselights pulled up and security remove the offending audience member and his friends.

Meanwhile, the second person to be ejected was apparently a woman who had shouted âwe love youâ from the crowd, and as she was removed, Peter is widely reported to have compared her to former Emmerdale and Strictly Come Dancing star Lisa Riley.

In a statement issued to Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning, Peter said: âI didnât realise it was an insult. The lady who was ejected did look remarkably like Lisa Riley, I donât know how that is an insult.â

Addressing the incident more broadly, he added: âThere comes a point where dealing with repeated hecklers simply isnât enough.â
Lisa Riley herself also shrugged off the debacle, sharing a cryptic Instagram post on Monday which read: âKeep calm and laugh.â
âItâs a laugh, itâs funny!!!â she added in the comments.

Back in 2017, Peter opened up to Jonathan Ross about how his âgarlic breadâ catchphrase continues to haunt him.
âWhoâd have thought that a food could be a catchphrase?â he pondered. âIt wasnât even a catchphrase! Itâs just food!
âAnd I couldnât get it in Morrisons the other week⌠and my wife was in the car with the children and I was ages, and she said, âwhy were you so long?â. I said, âI couldnât find garlic bread, and I couldnât ask for it because I was mortified to say because they all would have saidâŚâ

âI found it, though, at the end of an aisle,â he quipped.
