It's New Music Friday!
(L-R) Tate McRae, Doechii and JENNIE
Charlie Denis for RCA Records, Columbia Records
Our favorite LGBTQ+ (and adjacent) artists just dropped a slurry of new music! So who's ready to celebrate?
Grammy Award winner Doechii joins K-pop icon Jennie for their delicious new track "ExtraL," viral rap star Cortisa Star just dropped "Misidentify," and Suki Waterhouse wants to be your "Dream Woman." Meanwhile, folky singer-songwriter Kevin Atwater is fighting to get out "the cage," Perfume Genius and Aldous Harding teamed up for "No Front Teeth, and Durand Bernarr reflects on being "Overqualified" in his smooth new R&B bop.
And the pop girlies are out in full force this week. Marina's new song "BUTTERFLY" feels remarkably nostalgic of her Electra Heart era. R&B star Coco Jones sampled a Britney Spears' record on her latest, and Tate McRae's highly anticipated third studio album So Close To What has arrived - and is stacked with bangers.

A new Tate McRae era has arrived!

The pop star held an album release party/performance at the Kia Forum *checks notes* parking lot in Los Angeles Thursday night – and absolutely slayed it.
We were skeptical when she was first advertised to perform in the iconic venue's parking lot but the area was set up like a small festival with photo activations for fans, games with Tate McRae-themed prizes, food trucks, and a massive stage framed by giant yellow cranes that red "TATE."
Around 9 p.m. PT, McRae strutted on stage in bedazzled athletic gear that read "T8." She brought the stage presence while perfectly executing her impressive and now-iconic dance moves. McRae is the closest thing we have to the 2000s pop stars of lore, and her hunger for pop stardom is infectious, commanding you to dance. She performed her hits "Greedy," You Broke Me First," and "It's ok i'm ok," then previewed new bangers off her third studio album So Close To What.
It's only a matter of time until the sexy bop "Dear God" is played in gay bars around the country, and McRae is waiting on a sign in the moody track "Greenlight."
"bloodonmyhands" featuring hip-hop star Flo Milli feels like the clear standout of the album though. The high energy could be felt during the track and on stage, one of McRae's fabulous male backup dancers twerked on the boys to the crowd's delight. We can only hope it'll get the single treatment.
The set was a tight 30 minutes, so we'll just have to wait and see everything she's got during this summer's Miss Possessive World Tour.
