Powerplex’s fate in the Invincible comics may surprise you after Season 3
Powerplex just made his debut in Invincible Season 3 Episode 6, and if the show sticks to the comics, he will return.
Invincible Season 3 Episode 6 introduces Powerplex, a vengeful, tragic character who makes a horrifying mistake – and he has a surprising arc in the comics.
The shadow of Mark’s brawl against Omni-Man loomed over the second season of Invincible. He was trying to stop his dad from enslaving the world, but that came with a price: the brutal, mangled deaths of thousands of people as they crashed through Chicago.
In Episode 6, that guilt is personified in Scott Duvall, a man with the incredible ability to absorb all kinds of energy and produce high-voltage blasts of electricity. This makes him a tricky opponent; if you hit him, you’ll only him more dangerous.
He has a worthy axe to grind with Invincible, and his desperate quest for revenge unfolds in Season 3 Episode 6. If you’ve watched it and you want to know what happens to him next in the comics, you’re in the right place.

In the comics, Powerplex is incarcerated at Stronghold Penitentiary after accidentally killing his wife Becky and their son Jack. He vows to “avenge all the deaths [Invincible] caused… each and every one of them.”
“I’ve got time in here – I’m researching, finding every single person who lost their life because of something you did. I’m going to make you pay for it all. I won’t be un here forever. They’re keeping me contained. No solar energy, no electricity, they’ve cut me off.
“But sooner or later, someone will mess up. A guard will get careless, hit me – give me the energy I need to escape. When that happens, I’ll find you… and I’ll find a way to kill you.”

He escapes prison in Issue #60 during the Invincible War, eventually attacking Mark in the fallout in Issue #61. “I can’t believe you’d show your face here after all the pain and suffering you’ve caused,” he screams, forcing the Guardians and other heroes to restrain him until he runs out of energy, and he’s taken back to prison.

By Issue #81, Powerplex is working alongside the Actioneers (under Cecil’s supervision, obviously). News of Las Vegas’ destruction and Invincible’s possible involvement enrages him, so he tracks him down and attacks him again.
“How many people have to die before you see what you’ve done? Are you really oblivious to the destruction you cause?” he asks Mark, who replies: “No, how could I be? I know how many deaths I’ve caused. It weighs on me.
“Here’s what you’re ignoring though, the world is a horrible place. Every time I was involved in a fight that led to deaths, be it one or 1,000, if I’d done nothing, it would have been much worse.

“Your sister died when I fought my father, that was unfortunate, but I was stopping him from taking over the whole planet. Hundreds died in that fight – could have been hundreds of thousands if he’d won.”
Powerplex lashes out, but Mark refuses to retaliate. Instead, he forces Scott to accept the reality: Mark has only ever tried to save people, and he’s the one who killed his wife and kids.
“I didn’t bring them to that place. I didn’t tie them up. I didn’t shoot electrical current into their bodies. I’m sorry… but you did that,” he says, and Powerplex bursts into tears and replies: “You’re right.”
Powerplex isn’t punished. Cecil considers this fight with Mark to be a “breakthrough… it’s tragic, but locking him away does nothing. He’s useful.”
So, he returns to his duties with the Actioneers, even helping to defend Earth from a Flaxan invasion down the line, and he never attacks Invincible again.
