Prince Harry has always loved his family. Despite his ongoing feud with his father, King Charles III, the Duke of Sussex has continually expressed his adoration for the royal family, including his late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II. Still, his need to protect his wife, Meghan Markle, and their young family was greater than the sacrifice they would need to make at the palace.
When they moved to the United States, all of the royal family comforts were ripped from Harry and Meghan — and they needed to support themselves quickly. In the frenzy of deal-making during a global pandemic, Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare, was born. It was a mega-success, but it also came at a cost. The rift widened, particularly with older brother Prince William, and the only olive branches extended seemed to come from Harry’s side.

A new Vanity Fair article is shedding light on how the fallout has affected Harry and how, as of 2023, his family had not reached out to him even though he was open to a reconciliation. “That’s sort of what made me so sad,” a source told the magazine. “His hope seemed very genuine. And I was just kind of like, ‘Oh, no.’ ” The royal insider believed that Spare did more harm than good after its publication.
“The power of the written word, and the power of the narrative…” they continued. “I don’t know if that’s something he understood while he was doing it.” Yet there may be light at the end of the very long tunnel. With reports per The Daily Beast that Prince William is “blocking” King Charles from reconciling with Harry, Kate Middleton is using her muscle at the palace to “bring Harry home.”
Kate wants the family to reconcile. “With the king’s health continuing to decline, there’s only so much time for that to happen,” a Life & Style insider shared while noting that the Princess of Wales’ cancer battle made her realize that “life is too precious” and “she fears time is running out” with the monarch. With Kate’s newfound power in the royal family, a healing of old wounds in 2025 just might be on the agenda.
