Prince Harry Reveals Son Prince Archie Once Asked to See Iconic Footage of Princess Diana
During the Invictus Games 2025, Prince Harry revealed that he has shared an iconic video of his late mother Princess Diana to his and Meghan Markle's son, Archie.
Although Princess Diana died 22 years before her grandson Prince Archie was born in 2019, his father Prince Harry is keeping her memory alive through one of the most poignant images of the late Princess of Wales ever captured.

Harry revealed at the Invictus Games on February 9 that he has shown his and Meghan Markle's 5-year-old son videos of Diana walking through a minefield in Angola in 1997, just months before she died on August 31. According to The Telegraph, Harry showed Archie this iconic footage to help him âunderstand [the] lasting impact of the weapons of war.â
Harry also revealed on Sunday that Archie asked to see photos and videos of the landmine walk, telling Canadian television channel CTV, âItâs hard, because kids donât always ask the right questions, so you either shut it down right awayâwhich I will never doâor you engage in the conversation and try to explain things.â

âArchie was asking about landmines, so I was talking about how some of these guys were blown up,â Harry continued. âI think IEDs [improvised explosive devices] are probably a little much at this point, but I found myself talking to him about mines when he was five years old. Interestingly, it gave me a chance to talk about my mum, his grandma, which I didnât even really consider, so that became the outcome of the story for him.â
Harry added that Archie âwanted to see videos and photographs of his Grandma Diana out doing her thing for landmines all those years ago. It produced a very interesting conversation between me and him, different to what I thought it would be.â

In 2019âcoincidentally, the same year Archie was bornâHarry retraced his motherâs steps in Angola that September, wearing body armor and a protective visor just as she had done in January 1997, seven months before her death in a Paris car accident. Delivering a speech at the same spot Diana was once photographed, he said, âIt has been quite emotional retracing my motherâs stepsâŠto see the transformation that has taken place, from an unsafe and desolate place into a vibrant community.â
Harry previously revealed in a 2022 interview with Todayâs Hoda Kotb that while he doesnât tell Archie âall the stuff thatâs happenedâ in his family, he shows his son photographs of âGrandma Diana,â which Harry and wife Meghan keep around the Montecito home they share with Archie and Princess Lilibet, 3.
Harry and Meghan are in Canada this week for the Invictus Gamesâ latest iteration, arriving in Vancouver on February 7. Theyâve since traveled to Whistler, where winter sports are being held for the first time in the history of the Invictus Games, which were founded by Harry in 2014.
