Prince Harry and Meghan Markle warned of new Trump 'battle' after latest move
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex could find themselves in hot water after their latest statement, warns expert.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were warned over a potential new "battle" with US President-elect Donald Trump after their latest statement against Meta's fact-checking changes.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement this week accusing Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads, of "allowing more abuse and normalising hate speech" after its decision to scrap third-party fact-checking and loosen its content moderation.
The Sussexes called on Meta to reconsider the changes, and urged firms to commit to make online spaces safe, saying: "We applaud leaders who refuse to kowtow to bullying".
But a PR expert warned the couple could face "repercussions" from Mr Trump during his next four years in office.
Nick Ede told Newsweek: "Unfortunately, there could be a repercussion from this, especially with Trump, you know, poking this ginormous bear and not expecting something back from it. Trump will see this as a battle he wants to win and potentially will target them in whatever way he does it. We know how Trump is and he has said he is looking to see how Prince Harry, having taken drugs [as he wrote in his memoir, Spare], was able to get citizenship in the US."
