Princess Eugenie Mourns "Special Friend" Michelle Trachtenberg Following Her Death
Princess Eugenie shared a heartfelt tribute to her "special friend" Michelle Trachtenberg following her death on Wednesday, February 26.

Following the sad news of Michelle Trachtenberg's death, tributes for the actress continue to pour in from people of all kinds—including fans, celebrities, and even royalty. On Thursday, Trachtenberg was mourned by Princess Eugenie, who honored the Gossip Girl star with a heartfelt mention on social media that gave rare insight into their unlikely friendship.Â
Sharing a candid black-and-white photo of the pair, Eugenie wrote on her Instagram Story: "Goodbye special friend. You are so loved and missed. Thank you for so many memories of laughter and fun. You were so thoughtful and generous and soooo funny. My favourite was listening to you order food, always done with precision so you got exactly what we all wanted," the royal continued. "I'm thinking of you up there friend, of your spirit that was so bright and your joy you brought so many."

Back in December 2020, Trachtenberg shared the same snapshot of the two, writing: "This is a #throwback post. And a dedication to an amazing person. I met this wonderful human. Years ago in New York. Eugenie, has been one of the most dearest, kindest, most genuine friends I have ever had in my life."Â

Eugenie and Trachtenberg were first spotted together in 2013 when they attended a New York Knicks game together at Madison Square Garden. At the time, Eugenie lived in New York while working at online auction house Paddle8. Since then, Trachtenberg has documented their close friendship on Instagram, referring to the British royal as "my girl E" and a "wonderful human" over the years.Â

Trachtenberg was pronounced dead on Wednesday, February 26 at age 39 after the NYPD found the actress unresponsive in her Midtown apartment early that morning. Trachtenberg's cause of death has been marked as "undetermined," with her family allegedly declining an autopsy.
The investigation is ongoing, but criminality is not suspected in her death.
