BBC Radio 1 caught in major Eurovision blunder revealing UK artist
BBC Radio 1 has found itself at the center of a major Eurovision mishap. Live on air, the presenters let slip who would be the UK Eurovision artist.
One viewer took to X, formerly Twitter, to repost the clip that was heard on radio alongside the caption: "Thereâs no way this is how the BBC just officially revealed the UK Eurovision artist." In the clip, presenters Natalie O'Leary and Vicky Hawsworth were having a candid chat when they brought up Eurovision.
Vicky said: "Now we've got to talk a little about Eurovision because we've gone a different route this week, [I mean] this year." She added: "So this year they're going for a country theme and country is having its moment, still, which I'm really glad to see, we saw Beyonce win album of the year at the Grammys for Cowboy Carter and now this girl band, which are called Remember Monday, are going to be representing us at Eurovision this year.
"So we've got Lauren Burne, Holly Anne-Hull, and Charlotte Steel, and they've already been on TV, they've been on The Voice in 2019, so they know what they're doing, they've got us this year." Natalie added: "Come on girls, I'm feeling strong for Eurovision and it is country."

Instagram/@remembermonday_)Fans took to the comment section to question the strange revelation, with one user writing: "Such a confusing way to just drop it. What happened to making hype?" Another user posted a meme of Hagrid from Harry Potter saying: "You shouldn't have said that," alongside the caption, "Such a confusing way to just drop it. What happened to making hype?"
Fans have been on the hunt to discover who will represent us in May and have unearthed several clues to suggest that country pop trio Remember Monday have landed the plum gig. after being selected by the BBCâs team of experts.
The girls got their first airplay on national radio from Scott Mills, who has just taken over the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show. In November Scott - a huge Eurovision fan who is always involved in the BBCâs presenting line-up - played their song Famous and said he âreally likedâ them, comparing their harmonising to 90s Californian duo Wilson Phillips. âThey used to make music after sixth form every Monday which is where they got their name from,â he explained.
The Mirror had revealed that the UK had âchosen a girl bandâ and also that the song they will perform has been penned by âan experienced team familiar with the contest, with one of the creators even having a past Eurovision victoryâ. Another superfan said that the songwriting team involved Emmelie de Forest, a Danish singer-songwriter who represented her country at Eurovision in 2013.
But the biggest clues came from the band themselves, made up of school pals Lauren Burne, Holly-Anne Hull and Charlotte Steel, who call themselves âpop girlies with a little bit of yeehawâ. They recently posted on X: âWe have been super quiet because we have been busy working on something he he he. 2025 we are very, very ready for ya!â
It comes after the singers posted a TikTok version of themselves performing Sam Ryderâs almost-winning entry Space Man a year ago, tagging him with the message: âHey get us on Eurovision!â Remember Monday have half a million followers on TikTok, with fans loving their harmonies and strong vocal range. The trio reached the quarter-final of The Voice UK in 2019, auditioning with a cover of Sealâs Kiss From a Rose, which got all four judges - including Jennifer Hudson, who became their coach - to turn their chairs.
The BBC has announced that Sam Ryderâs former management is helping to source the UK Eurovision entry this year, led by David May, who worked closely with the BBC team in 2022 as Ryderâs manager when he was runner-up in Turin. Speaking in October, David said: âWe want to collaborate with an authentic act who has a genuine, heartfelt story to tell, and an unmatched vocal tonality and range.â
