Radio host Chris Stark, 38, diagnosed with cancer as he issues urgent appeal

The Capital FM Breakfast and BBC Radio 1 presenter has been diagnosed with the disease and has undergone chemotherapy treatment to stop the cancer from returning

Radio host Chris Stark has revealed his diagnosis of testicular cancer.

The radio presenter, who is also known for his work on BBC Radio 1 and Capital FM Breakfast, shared the news on social media after a routine visit to his GP led to the diagnosis.

The 38-year-old has been undergoing chemotherapy and surgical procedures to prevent the disease from recurring.

Sharing his experience on Instagram, Chris said: "Around a couple of months ago, after a routine trip to my local doctors, I found out I have Testicular Cancer. I had surgery pretty quickly and have been off the radio/ podcasts the last couple of weeks having chemotherapy to best prevent anything from coming back."

He continued: "The reason I want to share this is that I feel like an idiot that I didn't spot this sooner. And although I'm effectively cured and it was caught early, my hope is any bloke reading this will perhaps think to check themselves today. Or go to a doctor if not sure about any possible symptoms.

"Caught early, this cancer is so so treatable. It is most common in men aged 18-49. I also think it's a tricky subject matter to talk about, but I'm willing to put my now one ball on the line here if it helps make that conversation less tricky for guys, encourages someone to check themselves and potentially saves a life."

Chris expressed his gratitude with a heartfelt message: "Thank you to my incredible family, who stood by me and encouraged me to share what's happened. I also want to thank my brilliant friends and work colleagues for supporting me and my family.

"And of course, a huge thank you to the incredible doctors, nurses, and hospital staff I've encountered, especially concerning cancer care. Also want to take a moment to send my thoughts and prayers to anyone affected by cancer.".

His post was met with an outpouring of love and support from mates and colleagues alike, reports the Mirror.

Scott Mills, his former co-host from Radio 1, wrote: "So so amazing that you've shared this. Always here for you," followed by a trio of red hearts.

"Chuffed to hear you're on the up and up, mate, and hats off for spreading the word," Jack Saunders from Radio 1 commented.

Meanwhile, Chris' co-host at Capital FM, Jordan North, couldn't wait for his return, saying: "We love you so much mate and can't wait to have you back on the show with us tomorrow. Big love my friend I'm so proud of you."

James Brittain-McVey of The Vamps sent his love and praised Chris for his courage: "Sending you love mate and brilliant you're brave enough to talk about it, I'm sure it'll help many other men."

Melvin Odoom showed his appreciation with a simple: "Thanks for sharing bro and glad you're ok."

Clara Amfo also weighed in with her relief and respect: "SO glad you caught it quickly, salute for sharing! ! !".

Gaby Roslin wrote: "Sending you so much love and it's wonderful news you're doing so well and brilliant you shared this message. Big love to you."

Gabby Logan also expressed her joy, saying: "So glad your outcome is positive and well done for sharing the message,"

According to the HSE, testicular cancer is a rare cancer, accounting for only about 1% of all cancers in men. It is highly curable, especially when found and treated early.

Symptoms of testicular cancer often include a lump or swelling in the testicle, an increase in testicle size, an ache or pain in the testicle or scrotum, or a heavy, firm or hard feeling in the scrotum.

Additional symptoms can be an ache or pain in the back or lower abdomen, unexplained weight loss, a cough, difficulty swallowing, or a sore and swollen chest. The treatment for this condition varies depending on the size and type of the cancer, whether it has spread, and the overall health of the patient.

Surgery is often performed to remove the testicle and the cancer, and patients may also undergo chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
