Rapper’s first post-jail performance will be headlining summer music fest
Rapper Young Thug will join Future and Don Toliver at Chicago's hip-hop Summer Smash Festival, the first post-jail stage appearance for the rapper.

Atlanta rapper Young Thug is one of three artists who will headline the Summer Smash Festival, his first appearance on the stage since he was released from jail, according to Billboard.
The Summer Smash Festival will take place from Friday, June 20 to Sunday, June 22 in Bridgeview, Illinois, a Chicago suburb, at SeatGeek Stadium, the website said.
“We are excited to present the 7th edition of the largest independent hip-hop festival in the world and can’t wait to show the fans what we’ve been working on,” Berto Solorio, Summer Smash Festival co-founder and SPKRBX founder said in a statement published by Pollstar.
Don Toliver and YEAT as well as Future will be the other headlining acts. Some other well-known hip hop artists include Che, Soulja Boy, Lil Tecca, Insane Clown Posse, Lil Yachty, Lil Tracy and more. Chance the Rapper will close out the festival.
“I feel lucky to be able to throw the party of the year with my best friends,” Cole Bennett, co-founder of Summer Smash Festival and Lyrical Lemonade said in a statement also published by Pollstar. “May this be the best one yet. Lucky number 7.”
According to documents accessed online that were filed with U.S. District Court of Washington in Seattle, Young Thug -- whose birth name is Jeffery Williams and also goes by Slime -- was released from jail last October after he changed his plea to guilty in Georgia’s longest-running criminal trial, NBC News reported.
Young Thug was charged with racketeering conspiracy, gang-related activity, and drug and gun charges which stemmed from accusations that his rap label, YSL, was a front for a violent criminal street gang, BBC reported.
According to the BBC article published on Oct. 31, 2024, Young Thug had spent more than 900 days in jail since his arrest in 2022. Prosecutors argued YSL was responsible for “75 to 80% of violent crime” in Atlanta, the media outlet reported.
After he pled guilty to the charges, he was sentenced to time served and 15 years of probation, BBC reported.
