According to Taiwanese media outlet ET Today on February 10th, a netizen revealed that Wang Xiaofei and his mother Zhang Lan are in debt of 142 million USD (approximately 200 billion won) and they established a trust in Taiwan under a relative’s name to conceal and launder money.
Regarding Wang Xiaofei’s massive debt, the netizen explained, “They falsely reported the sales revenue when selling a beauty company to a private equity fund, which was later discovered to be fraudulent”, adding “As a result, the private equity fund sued Zhang Lan, and the court ordered them to pay 142 million USD in compensation for damages.”
Furthermore, the netizen claimed, “Zhang Lan transferred the money to Taiwan and established a trust fund under the names of Wang Xiaofei and a relative. She insisted that the money had nothing to do with her, but the private equity fund later discovered that she had secretly embezzled the fund’s assets and purchased real estate in New York through seven different borrowed-name accounts.”
As a result, attention is focused on the late actress Barbie Hsu’s inheritance that Koo Jun-yeop promised to protect for her family. Previously, lawyers raised their voices following Koo Jun-yeop’s decision to give up Barbie Hsu’s inheritance and give everything to his mother-in-law, saying “He should not give up on the inheritance”.
According to several lawyers, the primary heirs of Xu Xiyuan’s inheritance are Koo Jun-yeop and her two children. If Koo Jun-yeop renounces his inheritance, Barbie Hsu’s two children will inherit the assets equally, and her mother will not receive anything. However, in this case, there is a high possibility that the assets inherited by the children will ultimately end up in the hands of their biological father, Wang Xiaofei.

The lawyers advised that Koo Jun-yeop should claim his rightful share of Barbie Hsu’s inheritance and then transfer the entire portion to Barbie Hsu’s mother in accordance with Taiwanese law. However, they also noted that this process could incur a significant gift tax.
In addition, the lawyers emphasized that if Barbie Hsu had legally prepared a will before her passing, designating her inheritance to her children and mother, then her mother could receive a portion of it. However, if there is no will, the legal heirs are Koo Jun-yeop and the two children. They emphasized that Koo Jun-yeop “should not renounce his inheritance rights.”
