Opening the press conference in tears, he bowed deeply in apology and called himself a “coward” for causing trouble to many people. He then firmly denied dating Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor and announced legal action against the actress’s family and the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute, demanding 12 billion won (approximately $9 million) in damages. After delivering his statement, Kim Soo-hyun left the venue, escorted by his lawyer.
Despite the press conference excluding a Q&A session, one female reporter defied the rule. Just as Kim Soo-hyun was about to leave, she loudly asked, “Mr. Kim Soo-hyun, can you share when and where you first met Kim Sae-ron? Answering this shouldn’t be a problem, right? Please, just let us know when and where you first met.”
Kim Soo-hyun did not respond and walked away in silence. His refusal to answer sparked heated discussions online. Some found his reaction suspicious, questioning why he avoided such a simple inquiry. Others defended him, arguing that he had already clarified his past relationship with Kim Sae-ron during the press conference.
AdvertisementDuring the event, the 1988-born actor reiterated that he and Kim Sae-ron had only dated for a year, from 2019 to 2020. He also addressed why he had previously denied their relationship when Kim Sae-ron posted romantic photos of them on social media last year.
Kim Soo-hyun explained that his denial was out of concern for the impact on “Queen of Tears,” the drama he was working on at the time. He didn’t want his past relationship to negatively affect his colleagues, the production team, or his family.
