Ricky Gervais rips apart virtue-signalling Grammy winners with savage four-word statement
The comedian made his thoughts clear on the famous faces making political references during the awards
Ricky Gervais has weighed in on the political statements made during Sunday's Grammy Awards, blasting virtue-signalling messages.
The comedian took to X to share a message in response to coverage of the awards, which took place in Los Angeles over the weekend.
The star-studded ceremony saw a few subtle mentions of US politics by many of the famous faces.
Host Trevor Noah aimed a jokey dig at President Donald Trump as he opened the 67th Grammy Awards, noting that "tens of thousands of people have lost their homes" and "entire neighbourhoods have been erased".
After referencing the devastating LA wildfires, he continued: "Despite all the devastation, the spirit of the city has emerged".
He soon switched the topic to American politics, suggesting the awards might be his last time hosting "anything in this country" due to recent changes in Washington.

Elsewhere, singer Alicia Keys also took aim at the newly-elected President, arguing: "DEI is not a threat, itās a gift".
"This is not the time to shut down the diversity of voices," she began.
The Girl On Fire hit-maker added: "We've seen on this stage, talented, hard-working people from different backgrounds with different points of view, and it changes the game.
"EI is not a threat ā itās a gift. The more voices, the more powerful the sound."
Seemingly responding to the political undertones of many of the famous faces' acceptance speeches, Gervais, 63, chimed in on social media.
Sharing an image of himself with a quote from his famous 2020 Golden Globes speech, which read: "You're in no position to lecture the public about anything," he added: "They're still not listening."
During the candid and memorable speech from five years ago, the comedian told some of Hollywood's biggest names: "So if you do win an award tonight, don't use it as a platform to make a political speech.
"Youāre in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world.
"Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg. So if you win, come up, accept your little award, thank your agent, and your God and f*** off, OK? Itās already three hours long. Right, letās do the first award."
Away from political speeches, one of the biggest stories to have come from the night was Kanye West and wife Bianca Censori.
