Royals Named After Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip
Princess Beatrice named two of her daughters after the late Queen Elizabeth II, and she’s far from the only royal to do so

Princess Beatrice welcomed her second child in January 2025 — and the baby’s name appeared to have a sweet nod to Queen Elizabeth II.
Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, announced the birth of their daughter Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi on January 29.
Beatrice and Edoardo also gave the middle name Elizabeth to their eldest daughter, Sienna Elizabeth Mapelli Mozzi, who was born on September 18, 2021.

It’s become a trend for members of the royal family to name their newest arrivals after the late queen or her husband, Prince Philip. (Philip died on April 9, 2021, at the age of 99, while the queen died on September 8, 2022, at the age of 96.)

King Charles III

King Charles III is the eldest son of Elizabeth and Philip.
Born Prince Charles Philip Arthur George on November 14, 1948, the king’s middle name seems to honor Philip and his grandfather King George VI.
Princess Anne

The queen and Philip’s second child, Princess Anne, was born Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise on August 15, 1950.
Anne had a close bond with the late queen. After her mother’s death on September 8, 2022, she traveled with the monarch’s coffin from Balmoral, Scotland, down to Edinburgh before traveling to London, England, the queen’s final resting place.
Zara Tindall
Elizabeth’s daughter, Anne, and her first husband, Captain Mark Phillips, welcomed their daughter, Zara, on May 15, 1981. The royal’s full name is Zara Anne Elizabeth Philips.

The Prince of Wales is the eldest son of Charles and the late Princess Diana. He was born Prince William Arthur Phillip Louis on June 21, 1982.
Princess Beatrice

Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson welcomed their first child, Princess Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, on August 8, 1988. Later, Beatrice continued the tradition of using Elizabeth as a middle name when her own children were born.

Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, welcomed their first child, Lady Louise, on November 8, 2003. She was named Louise Alice Elizabeth Mary Mountbatten-Windsor.
James, Earl of Wessex
Edward and Sophie’s second child, James Alexander Philip Theo Mountbatten-Windsor, was born on December 17, 2007.
James inherited the title Earl of Wessex from his father after Edward was named Duke of Edinburgh by Charles in 2023.
Isla Phillips
Anne’s son, Peter Phillips, is the late queen’s eldest grandchild. He and his former wife Autumn Kelly had a daughter, Isla Elizabeth Philips, on March 29, 2012.
Princess Charlotte

William and Princess Kate Middleton’s second child, Princess Charlotte, was born on May 2, 2015. Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.
It’s unclear whether Charlotte’s first name is a reference to her grandfather Charles. Her two middle names appear to honor her great-grandmother Elizabeth and William’s late mother, Diana.
Lena Tindall

She was named Lilibet ‘Lili’ Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.
“Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family nickname is Lilibet,” the couple said in a statement at the time. “Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales.”
