Ruben Amorim makes honest admission about Man Utd after Bournemouth draw
Rasmus Hojlund struck at the death for Manchester United to secure a vital point at Bournemouth, but Ruben Amorim wasn't impressed with the team's finishing against the Cherries
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim admitted his team need to "do better" in the attacking third after waiting until the 96th minute for their equaliser against Bournemouth in the 1-1 draw at the Vitality Stadium on Sunday. The Red Devils put in yet another lacklustre display on the south coast but snatched a point thanks to Rasmus Hojlund's stoppage time strike.
The result extends United's winless run in the Premier League to five games but gives them some momentum heading into the biggest game of their season against Athletic Bilbao in the Europa League semi-finals on Thursday night.
‌
United showed a lack of clinical edge during the game despite having 25 shots - six of which were on target - and the lion's share of possession, with Hojlund leaving it late to tap home at the far post.
‌
For the Danish striker, it ended a run of six games without a goal, but Amorim conceded he was concerned about his side's efforts in front of goal and said they "need to understand the game" in a better way.
"We could do better," he told Sky Sports after the game. "We created chances but we need to do better near the box. It is small things. We have to understand the foot that is in play, crossing, one v ones. We need to understand the game in that way."

We had the chances but again we didn't score."
Article continues belowWhile Hojlund took his goal tally for the season to nine and will have boosted his confidence after his latest strike, Amorim urged him to forget this game and move onto the next one - insisting his performances were not just about goals.
"It is always important for strikers to score," he said. "But when we look at the game as a striker it is not just the goals. It is a good boost but the next game is a new history and we have to go again."
‌
Amorim said he had taken some important takeaways from the game ahead of their pivotal clash against Bilbao this weekend as he said: "The way Bournemouth defend is quite similar to we can take things from this game. But again it is a new history and we must do better."
The Portuguese boss refused to comment on Evanilson's controversial red card that saw him clatter into Noussair Mazraoui after he appeared to slip - but his opposite number Andoni Iraola was furious and said it was "common sense" that the challenge was accidental.
"Everyone who has played football understands," he said. "He slips. He doesn't catch him with the leg that goes high and the consequence is a red card. It is another three games without playing. The repercussions for us are huge.
Article continues below"Of course we are going to appeal. It is common sense. In the first half Evanilson gets a kick in the chest by Casemiro. I don't think you should have a red card for this. But the VAR cuts the worst angle, the worst frame. If you are telling me that then it is something very, very serious. It is difficult for us."
