Marcus Rashford's training performance at Aston Villa has been praised with an ex-Manchester United star attributing his improved mood to leaving his boyhood club.
It was only several weeks ago that his work ethic was criticised by Ruben Amorim who allowed the England international to join the Midlands club on loan last month. Rashford, 27, had been left out of the first team for a month after Amorim questioned his work ethic, starting with the Manchester derby in December.
The forward chose to sign for Unai Emery's side until the end of the season and has since impressed on his return to the pitch. Despite not scoring in his three appearances for Villa, he played a key role in their exciting 2-1 win over Chelsea on Saturday, as he assisted both of Marco Asensio's goals.
Amorim's criticism of Rashford's application in training last month would have stung the boyhood United fan. The 40 year old's harsh statement came after he was asked about the forward's consistent absence from his squad, leading him to say that he'd rather play his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach instead of a player who doesn't give their all.
"If you do the maximum and do the right things, we can use every player. And you can see today on the bench, we missed a bit of pace to go, to change the game. I will put [Jorge] Vital [on the pitch] before I put a player that does not give the maximum. I will not change in that department," reports the Mirror.
Meanwhile, Villa's Cole Brannigan was left utterly impressed by Rashford's skill when challenging the first team in training. "We played them on the Wednesday and he (Rashford) trained... he's by far the best player I've seen technically with the ball - he was absolutely ridiculous," the youngster told News Letter. "I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
"We have a family group chat and I just put in 'Marcus Rashford is absolutely ridiculous'. Having Marcus Rashford at the club, he's someone for me to look up to." Former United goalkeeper Ben Foster believes the Englishman has looked "happier" during his time at Villa thus far and has praised his behaviour on the pitch.
Article continues below"I still think it's a little bit too early to jump on the bandwagon," he said on the latest episode of his Fozcast podcast. "I think everybody's buzzing to try and jump on and go: 'Oh, they've made a mistake by sending him out. What are they thinking? He should be doing this at Manchester United.'
"But he [does] look happier. He looks like he's willing to get the ball and drive to try and take players on. He just needs to keep doing that."
