Russell Brand has a massive scandal on his hands. The comedian, best known for his acting and voice work, has been charged with rape and sexual assault in London. While the charges are serious, Brand is not being held in custody and is apparently free to go about his business. Hours before news of the charges broke, he released a podcast episode in which he talked about his past and current relationships.
News that the London Metropolitan Police have charged Russell Brand with sexual assault broke on April 4. The actor and comedian likely knew the charges were coming in advance. In the lead-up to the announcement, Brand attempted to keep things as seemingly routine as possible. He posted to social media and even released a podcast episode. Still, in a slightly unsettling turn of events, he opted to open up about his previous, high-profile relationship and his current marriage.
During an episode of Stay Free with Russell Brand, Brand opened up about his short marriage to Katy Perry and his current relationship with Laura Brand. Brand claims Katy Perry was involved in ānothing nefariousā that he knew of during their relationship. He discussed her star power and the reasons behind the end of their union. His feelings about Perry now are far more positive than they were shortly after their split. Brand then praised his current wife, an author and illustrator. She has not issued a public statement about the situation at this time. Brand, however, has opted to speak out.
Russell Brand has responded to the allegations levied against him. In an Instagram story, Brand thanked people for the outpouring of support. Oddly enough, his statement did not start by denying the charges. Instead, he questioned the integrity of the government and asked his fans how they felt about the handling of other high-profile cases. He also alleged he was a āfoolā before he married his wife, before finally denying that he ever engaged in non-consensual sexual activity.

Brand has been married twice. He married Katy Perry in 2010 and later married Laura Brand in 2017. Brand and his wife have three children together. The family made headlines in February when they moved from the United Kingdom to Florida following the sexual assault allegations. Brand claims he was being āattackedā by the British authorities, according to the Standard.
