Scarlett Johansson Slams AI Video of Celebrities Fighting Kanye West’s Antisemitism: ‘We Must Call Out the Misuse of AI, No Matter Its Messaging’
Scarlett Johansson's likeness was used in an AI-created video condemning Kanye West's antisemitism.
Scarlett Johansson issued a statement to People speaking out against a viral AI-created video in which celebrities protest Kanye West‘s recent wave of antisemitic posts. An AI version of Johansson begins the clip, which features her and the likes of Jack Black, Mila Kunis, Drake, Steven Spielberg and more wearing shirts with the Star of David and the name “Kanye” on it. An AI version of Adam Sandler sticks his middle finger up as the video ends with the messages: “Enough is Enough” and “Join the Fight Against Antisemitism.”
Johansson called out the “the misuse of AI” in her statement and wrote: “I am a Jewish woman who has no tolerance for antisemitism or hate speech of any kind. But I also firmly believe that the potential for hate speech multiplied by AI is a far greater threat than any one person who takes accountability for it. We must call out the misuse of AI, no matter its messaging, or we risk losing a hold on reality.”
“I have unfortunately been a very public victim of AI,” Johansson continued, “but the truth is that the threat of AI affects each and every one of us. There is a 1000-foot wave coming regarding AI that several progressive countries, not including the United States, have responded to in a responsible manner. It is terrifying that the U.S. government is paralyzed when it comes to passing legislation that protects all of its citizens against the imminent dangers of AI.”
Popular on VarietyJohansson concluded by writing: “I urge the U.S. government to make the passing of legislation limiting AI use a top priority; it is a bipartisan issue that enormously affects the immediate future of humanity at large.”
As the Black Widow actor and “Marriage Story” Oscar nominee noted herself, she has been a “public victim” of AI and has spent the last two years fighting back against the recreation of her likeness. Johansson took legal action in November 2023 against an AI app that used her name and likeness in an online advertisement without permission. She then condemned OpenAI in May 2024 for using her voice from Spike Jonze’s 2013 movie “Her” as inspiration for a GPT-4o chatbot named Sky. Johansson’s lawyers contacted OpenAI to have the voice pulled down. She later revealed that she had turned down OpenAI’s original request to use her voice.
“When I heard the released demo, I was shocked, angered and in disbelief that [OpenAI CEO Sam Altman] would pursue a voice that sounded so eerily similar to mine that my closest friends and news outlets could not tell the difference,” Johansson said at the time in regards to the company using her voice anyway. “Mr. Altman even insinuated that the similarity was intentional, tweeting a single word ‘her’ — a reference to the film in which I voiced a chat system, Samantha, who forms an intimate relationship with a human.”
As for West, his antisemitic comments have resulted in his talent manager dropping him and his X profile being deactivated. His website, Yeezy.com, also went offline after it was selling a shirt with a swastika on it.

The director of The Art of Negotiation has shared his thoughts on the drama and the cast’s performances!
“The Art of Negotiation” follows the story of Yoon Joo No (Lee Je Hoon), an M&A expert who is known as a legendary negotiator, as he leads his team through high-stakes corporate challenges. The drama is helmed by director Ahn Pan Seok, who is known for his meticulous attention to detail and realism.
The cast also includes Kim Dae Myung as Oh Soon Young, Sung Dong Il as Song Jae Sik, Jang Hyun Sung as Ha Tae Soo, Oh Man Seok as Lee Dong Joon, Ahn Hyun Ho as Kwak Min Jung, and Cha Kang Yoon as Choi Jin Soo.
When asked why he chose to direct The Art of Negotiation, Ahn Pan Seok shared, “Usually, when I start a project, I sit down with the writer and develop ideas together from scratch. But 'The Art of Negotiation' is the first time I’ve chosen a drama based on a completed script. As soon as I read it, I knew it had a solid story and compelling conflicts worth exploring, so I took it right away. It’s a first in my career.”
Describing the drama’s unique appeal, he said, “Unlike the dramas I’ve worked on in recent years, this one has a bit of a hard-boiled tone. Instead of focusing on soft romance, it's more like a war over money. Working on something like this again after a long time feels incredibly refreshing.”
Ahn Pan Seok also emphasized his commitment to realism, stating, “All dramas have to feel real. The viewers should never feel like what they’re watching is fake.” Given his track record of delivering realistic storytelling, expectations are high for how he will bring the world of M&A negotiations to life in The Art of Negotiation.
The director also expressed deep trust and satisfaction with the cast, saying, “The actors fit their characters perfectly. Kim Dae Myung has a soft, gentle demeanor, but there's also strength underneath. Sung Dong Il, Jang Hyun Sung, and Oh Man Seok are, of course, fantastic as always. I also recommend keeping an eye on Ahn Hyun Ho and Cha Kang Yoon—both deliver refreshingly natural and non-cliché performances.”
Finally, Ahn Pan Seok praised Lee Je Hoon’s dramatic transformation for his role, saying, “From the moment he arrives on set until filming wraps, he completely embodies Yoon Joo No. Without a doubt, one of the biggest highlights of our drama is Lee Je Hoon himself. His performance and screen presence are something to look forward to.
“The Art of Negotiation” is scheduled to premiere on March 8 at 10:30 p.m. KST.
