A DOUBLE shooting linked to a drug debt and the horror killing of a convicted heroin dealer are among the “uncrackable” gangland murders in Police Scotland files.
Crimefighters still have eight underworld cases over the last 30 years where a suspect has never been definitely identified.

Former top cop Graeme Pearson reveals why culprits are still at largeCredit: AlamyThe mystery perpetrators are among scores of monsters behind a catalogue of 66 historical “undetected” slayings that continue to baffle cops.
We revealed last week the names of all of the victims in such cases between 1960 and 2012.
We take a closer look at the mob murders that have never been resolved, with the culprits either still at large or having taken their deadly secrets to the grave.
And former top cop Graeme Pearson gives his informed analysis on why these particular slayings have remained unsolved.
READ MORE SCOTTISH CRIMEHe says efforts to catch killers who are snarled up in organised criminal networks can be stymied by fears of reprisals.
The former head of the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agency explained: “The group who lie behind these acts will be right at the heart of organised crime.
“They are likely to have done time and they will be very single-minded in pursuit of their criminality.
“And they know that if they talk out of turn, or seem to be disloyal, then it is likely that they are going to end up dead too.”

The former MSP continued: “The thing that breaks them when law enforcement has success is often an unplanned event, that circumstance — a bit like politics, when something just crops up that you could never have forecast.
“Something that knocks the confidence of the group and it allows law enforcement to break into that cabal. And once you open it up, it splits like a piece of fruit.
The INSIDE story of Scotland's biggest gangster - Jamie 'The Iceman' Stevenson“Then they all begin to talk out of turn about each other, out of fear that they are going to end up on the front page of an indictment.”
Mr Pearson is convinced that even when cases remain cold for many years, perpetrators can never rest easy and will be tormented by the ever-present prospect of them finally being nailed.
He said: “The folk who are involved in these cases will think about it every day in life.
“Is today the day something unforeseen is going to come out of the woodwork and take the feet from under them?

A catalogue of Scotland's 'uncrackable' gangland crimes have been revealedCredit: Alamy“That’s what law enforcement are looking for when they do their annual reviews of these cases.
"And that’s why all of these cases still remain live.”
The crime expert says a raft of factors can surface years after a crime is committed that can give cops the breakthrough they’ve been searching for.
He explained: “It can be something like a domestic break-up.
“Maybe one of the criminals has gone too far in the way he or she conducts their personal life.
“You’re then looking to reinterview to see if there are things missing from previous interviews that they suddenly reveal after forgetting.
“In one case I was involved in many years ago, gang members had been pretty harsh about one of their member’s girlfriends. They spoke out of turn about her.

The Scottish Sun on Sunday revealed the names of all victims of unsolved crimes“And on the back of that, this particular gang member decided to stick them in.
“So you end up with that kind of social relationship breaking down the perception of intimidation.”
Police Scotland, formed in 2013, has had success recently in nailing killers decades after their crimes.
A spokesman said: “We have secured justice in a number of non-recent murder cases such as Renee and Andrew MacRae, Brenda Page, Caroline Glachan and others. Time is no barrier to justice.
“All unresolved homicides are kept under review for opportunities presented by new information or advances in forensic science.
“We understand how devastating it is for loved ones to never know why a homicide happened or who is responsible. Police Scotland never considers cases closed.”

Shot dead on his doorstep in 1993
SMALL-time drug dealer Henry McKechnie was blasted to death outside his home in the Cadder area of Glasgow.
Reports at the time claimed he had earlier threatened to shoot a rival peddler at a time when Scotland’s biggest city was in the grip of a narcotics war.

Strathclyde Police also said at the time that there had been a total of 40 attempted murders involving firearms as a drug turf war exploded.
McKechnie was gunned down aged 35 just yards from his home in Scapla Street.
His girlfriend heard the shots ring out and she ran outside to find him mortally wounded and bleeding to death.
Took a bullet to the head in 1996
THE assassin who shot dead career crook Billy Weatherall in a targeted hit has never been brought to justice — nearly 29 years after the killing.
Weatherall, 32, was found in a layby near Erskine, Renfrewshire, with a bullet through his head in February 1996.

The case collapsed and it was claimed Weatherall spent the months leading up to a potential trial breaking into houses across Glasgow.
It was reported he broke into the Maryhill pad of the mother of a drugs gang boss who put out a hit on him.
It was also claimed he got on the wrong side of top underworld figures in the months before his execution.
He was last seen alive days before his body was found.
Found knifed to death in layby in 2003
PUBLICAN Billy Sibbald was the subject of a desperate search before the discovery of his body at a roadside three months after he vanished without a trace.
The dad of three, 48, who ran the Pop Inn in Portobello, Edinburgh, was found knifed to death in a lay-by off the A1 on the outskirts of the capital on January 10, 2003.

Billy Sibbald's killer has never been caught after he was stabbed to deathCredit: CollectClaims emerged in 2020 that murdered gangland figure Alex Cameron was involved in the kill plot, allegedly linked to an unpaid drug debt.
Investigators are convinced Cameron did not act alone but Billy’s murder remains as unsolved.
Killer Jimmy Smith was later jailed for life for executing Cameron and burying his body in a farm’s dung heap in 2015.
Assassinated in double hit in 2001
THE double murder of John Hall and David McIntosh is one of Scotland’s most horrifying unsolved gangland hits.
The pals’ bodies were found bound, shot and mutilated near a burnt-out VW Golf on a dirt track in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, on October 3, 2001.

John, 45, and David, 33, were involved in the greyhound scene but had got involved in drug dealing prior to their brutal deaths.
Cops suspected a Glasgow druglord ordered the executions.
More than 20 years on, the hoods responsible remain a mystery.
Beaten to death & mutilated in 1992
THE Pakistani-born waiter and convicted drug dealer was working at a restaurant in Helensburgh, Argyll, when he was brutally murdered on August 4, 1992.
The 33-year-old had walked out the back of the Lomond Tandoori to get chickens from a food store when he was attacked.

Restaurant waiter Abdul Maneer was brutally killed outside his workReports at the time claimed his body had been hacked open by his attacker — who may have believed he had swallowed condoms stuffed with drugs.
The slaughter happened after Abdul, also known as Alex, was released from a seven-year sentence at Greenock Prison for a heroin conviction.
He was found in a pool of blood by horrified colleagues.
Police appeals stretched as far as Middlesbrough where Abdul was brought up.
Cops also issued three images of suspects but his killer or killers have never been traced.
Fatally stabbed outside pub in 2002
THE gangland enforcer, 36, was stabbed to death by an assassin waiting for him outside a Glasgow boozer.
The bloodbath slaying followed claims of a bitter fallout with underworld boss Tam ‘The Licensee’ McGraw.
The pair plus Billy McPhee — also later murdered — had been part of a group accused of smuggling cannabis worth £260,000 from Spain in 1997.
But a High Court jury in Edinburgh returned not roven on McGraw and McPhee.
The judge ruled there was no evidence against Ross.
No one has ever faced justice over his murder outside the Sheiling Bar, Shettleston, in September 2002.
McPhee was gunned down six months later. McGraw died in 2007.
Body found in oil drum in Clyde in 2007
BILLY Bates’ murder may have echoes of a Hollywood Mafia movie but his gangland assassination was horrifyingly real.
The 43-year-old’s body was discovered stuffed in an oil drum dumped in the River Clyde on July 26, 2007.

Billy Bates' remains were discovered in an oil drum in the River ClydeIt was a claimed revenge hit for another murder just weeks before.
Bates was in the frame for the gun assassination of Tam Cameron, 48, outside the Auchinairn Tavern in Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow on June 28.
But before he could face justice, his corpse was fished out of the water close to the Erskine Bridge.
One of Scotland’s most wanted men Derek ‘Deco’ Ferguson, 59, is also sought in connection with Cameron’s murder and has been linked to Bates’ killing too.
But his whereabouts remain unknown.
Died in a drive-by shooting in 2008
HOOD George Redmond was gunned down in a brazen drive-by shooting, still unsolved more than 16 years on.
Redmond, 42, died in a hail of bullets fired from a black Porsche Cayenne as he stood with pal John Maguire outside a Glasgow city centre pub on October 6, 2008.
