Sidemen's Vikkstar teases huge collab with 'exciting' Britain's Got Talent's KSI
Sidemen star Vikkstar has opened up about his new career as he ventures into electronic music and joining forces with Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero
Vikkstar has teased a major collaboration with one of the world's biggest producers and is also eying up collaborating with KSI.
The 29-year-old born Vikram Singh Barn first found fame as a member of the Sidemen YouTube group, amassing over 7.5 million views on his own YouTube channel. With his pals, KSI, Simon Minter, Joshua Bradley, Tobit 'Tobi' Brown, Ethan Payne and Harry Lewis, the lads have a combined subscriber count of 146.2 million, and over 43.6 billion views.
Now, Vikkstar who grew up in Sheffield, despite being born in Surrey, is venturing into the music industry and has already cemented himself as a name to watch. Back in 2022, he found himself invited onto the main stage of Tomorrowland as Alan Walker's guest. "It was a cool moment and something a bit different," Vikk exclusively told the Mirror.
He went on to say: "When we came off stage because I enjoy the music, I could learn to DJ and play it myself. I went on and did that, learning about production and making my own music, I've been following that journey. It's something I'm passionate about and enjoy." While he's used to having millions of people follow him online, he laughed that it was a "surreal" experience to be looking out at over 100,000 people.

Vikk had been working behind the scenes on music for years and in December 2022, he, KSI and TBJZL (Tobi) took things seriously, releasing the Christmas track, Christmas Drillings, featuring Jme. The record charted at number 3. "We got together in 24 hours, messed around, made a song," he laughed.
He added: "It was actually our team who said, 'if you guys push this, you realise you could get in the charts for Christmas and run for Christmas, number one', it was astonishing. It just shows how supportive and loyal our audience is, which we really appreciate and allows us to do so much of what we do today. It was a fun way into music and I enjoyed it at the time. It was a slightly different twist on how we usually look at things."
But could there be more collaborations with KSI, whose real name is Olajide Olayinka Williams 'JJ' Olatunji? "Yeah, 100 per cent," Vikk explained. He continued: "He's focusing on the fighting game right now which is to be expected but yeah, when the time is right – it would make a lot of sense to me and it would be a lot of fun for us to do something together, I'm sure it will happen at some point."
Fans could also expect a collaboration between himself and KSI
JJ will join the Britain's Got Talent judging panel, stepping in for Bruno Tonioli who had to take time away for other work commitments. Reflecting on this, Vikk commented: "It's great that he's doing Britain's Got Talent. I think it's going to provide something fresh, exciting, something that all of the younger people can connect to and also it's KSI, he's such a character. I'm looking forward to seeing his antics on that show."
For his first release, Vikk teamed up with Alan Walker and Dash Berlin to release Better Off Alone Pt. III which has so far smashed over 130 million streams. "It's a surreal experience to be working with some of the greatest producers and DJs," he said of working with Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero.
Vikk continued: "These are guys that I've been going to watch perform for the last decade. I've been involved in the scene for a long time before I looked at kind of taking it as a career path and they can see that I enjoy it and I'm happy to kind of help and work with me. And also it allows me to bring my audience into the dance music world, which I think is also cool to see crossover in both ways."

In April, he'll kick off a four date tour across the UK having sold out several gigs in Australia in just minutes. "I'm really excited to play some of my own shows," he teased. Vikk went on to add: "What I did is I put out a link where people could register for interest, we decided to pick the four cities with the most interest. I was sad when I saw Sheffield didn't make it but I think with just starting out and how busy my schedule is, I wanted to get to the most of my fans that I possibly could with these four shows." He'll be performing at XOYO in Birmingham, Manchester's O2 Ritz, District in Cardiff and SWX in Bristol.
Vikk has been on the YouTube scene since 2010, he admits its "pretty mind blowing" to see such huge numbers following his career. "We've kind of seen it gradually increase over a decade. So it doesn't come as, as so much of a kind of shock, but it's still pretty crazy," he admitted.
The content creator who started filming gaming content admits he and his pals started their channels before you could earn money from the content. "We were all just doing it for the love of learning the skills, having fun and sharing stuff creatively. When I started my channel, my main goal was 'it would be really cool if I could get to 1,000 subscribers,' and that took me probably over a year.
"It's just all been a natural journey and just taking opportunities where they come up and expanding the whole project." But having millions of followers across the globe comes with some awkward encounters. One that sticks in his mind is a fan phoning a restaurant after spotting the lads dining there. "They asked one of the waitresses to bring the phone over to us so they could talk to us. We were a bit baffled," he laughed, adding: "But we were a bit impressed at the lengths someone would go to, to speak to us. But at the same time were were a bit confused that our dinner had been interrupted by a confused waitress with a phone."
Later this year, Vikk and his Sidemen co-stars will own global Netflix show, Inside, which he says is "really exciting to go from making videos with little webcams on YouTube up to producing a whole series for Netflix worldwide." The lads have also sold-out Wembley Stadium for their charity football match which is taking place on March 8.
