Slot admits Liverpool star out for the season as Nunez grilled for attitude

Liverpool missed out on the chance to hammer home their advantage at the top on Wednesday night - and now they've been hit with several issues.
Arne Slot saw his team held at Aston Villa with Trent Alexander-Arnold needing to come up with an equaliser. It opens the door for Arsenal to eventually close the gap on the Reds, who failed to land three points after Darwin Nunez missing a howler in front of an open goal.
The Dutch manager has largely enjoyed positive moment after positive moment in his debut campaign at Anfield but injuries and a slight dip in form has seen questions asked. Slot meanwhile may be about to stomach a touchline ban ahead of this weekend's clash at Manchester City. Here's the latest from Liverpool.
Slot confirms injury blowJoe Gomez is in a race to be fit before the end of the season after undergoing surgery. The defender has been out with a hamstring injury since January and recently went under the knife. Gomez attempted to make his comeback, but lasted just 11 minutes before needing to be subbed off in the FA Cup defeat to Plymouth Argyle.
Slot gave a non-committal response on the status of the 27-year-old and claimed he will "maybe" be back before the end of May. He said: "Joe Gomez had surgery for his hamstring injury, so he's out for a long time. He will be back maybe just before the end of the season."
The Reds are likely to be pushing for numerous honours come May. The Premier League may be wrapped up, but equally Arsenal could have massively closed the gap. The Champions League will also be a huge target for Liverpool with the final in Munich on May 31.

The due were both charged with "[acting] in an improper manner and/or used insulting and/or abusive words and/or behaviour towards a match official" after being seen having tense words with referee Michael Oliver following the frantic final Merseyside Derby at Goodison Park.
Slot and Hulschoff's dismissals made it four red cards in the game and the FA will now conduct a hearing in the next 10 days to decide on their punishment, with a touchline ban likely.

The Reds boss had no issues with Nunez missing the chance but he was angry about how the player performed for the rest of the game and will “not accept” the drop off in work rate.
He said: “I can accept every miss, especially from a player that has scored two very important goals against Brentford, that scores for us in the home game against Villa
“That I that I can accept but what was a bit harder for me to accept was his behaviour after that chance. With behaviour, I mean, I think it got too much in his head, where he wasn't the usual Darwin that works his a** off and makes sure he helps the team."
