From filmmakers to artists, Hollywood lost several stars in 2025. News broke on January 4 that Aubrey Plaza’s estranged husband, Jeff Baena, died one day earlier at the age of 47. Per medical examiner records viewed by Us Weekly, Baena died by suicide. “This is an unimaginable tragedy,” Plaza’s rep said in a statement to […]
TMZ’s report also included further detail into Nyweide’s death including that she was allegedly found “not far from a high school in Bennington” at around 4:00 AM on Monday and was “declared dead at the scene.”
The outlet added that “a man was with Sophie when she died” and that the man “is cooperating with cops.” He is reportedly not, however, “considered a suspect or person of interest.”
An autopsy is also “pending” and a toxicology report is reportedly being conducted.
Born in Burlington, Vermont, Nyweide was an actress who portrayed Michelle Williams’ on-screen daughter in the 2009 film Mammoth. Her obituary read, “Sophie. A life ended too soon. May it not be in vain. May we all learn from her brief life on earth and do better. Yes, we must all protect our children and do better.”
She was also described by her family as a “kind and trusting girl” who wrote and drew “voraciously.”
It continued, “Much of this art depicts the depth she had and it also represents the pain she suffered. Many of her writings and artwork are roadmaps of her struggles and traumas. Even with those roadmaps, diagnoses, and her own revelations, those closest to her, plus therapists, law enforcement officers and others who tried to help her are heartbroken their efforts couldn’t save her from her fate.”
