Nicole Kidman and Jodie Foster appeared to have an intense chat during the 2025 Golden Globe Awards. Foster won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television for her work on HBO’s True Detective.
During a commercial break, a viral moment between the women occurred. Kidman and Foster were engrossed in conversation. However, a lip reader reveals their conversation was less of a heated discussion and more of a pep talk.
On TikTok, user tismejackieg, who is deaf, read Foster and Kidman’s lips and shared details of their conversation. She believes Kidman was genuine in her supportive remarks toward Foster.
Per the lip reader’s interpretation, Kidman told Foster, “At the end of the day, this is a f****** tough award. And because of that show, I mean, I’m so glad they saw that. I’m so glad, it’s good.”

Kidman continued, “Don’t go and spoil it. You did it, right?”
Nicole Kidman and Jodie Foster discussed their long professional friendship while joined by Brie Larson, Naomi Watts, Jennifer Aniston, Ana Sawai, and Sofía Vergara during a drama actress roundtable for the Hollywood Reporter.
Foster and Kidman shared details of when Kidman stepped down from filming 2002’s Panic Room and Foster took over the lead role. Speaking of how women in the industry support one another, Foster revealed, “There’s this misconception that somehow female actresses are at each other or they don’t like each other or whatever.”
“Nicole, I took over a movie that you had to leave,” she added. “Yes! And thank you. I was in a really bad way,” Kidman responded. “I was like, ‘I’m having a breakdown.’ And Jodie took over, thank the Lord.”
Kidman reportedly dropped out of filming Panic Room due to a knee injury she sustained while filming Moulin Rouge. The film co-starred 11-year-old Kristen Stewart of Twilight fame.
Although Kidman stepped back from production, she still appeared uncredited in the film. She was the voice of Foster’s ex-husband’s girlfriend, heard over the phone.

The nature of Nicole Kidman’s remarks to Jodie Foster at the Golden Globes would lead outsiders to assume they have a close friendship off camera. Although Kidman and Foster have fostered a friendly professional relationship, they aren’t known for being close friends outside of work.
However, Kidman and Foster have both been an integral part of the entertainment industry for decades and have likely crossed paths at various events, including award shows and film premieres. But, there appears not to be a deep, personal friendship between the women, at least not in the way some other celebrity duos have visible, ongoing relationships.
Nicole Kidman’s latest project was the film Babygirl. Jodie Foster’s next film is Vie Privée.
